The formation and development of most ancient villages in China is closely related to water.Water management is an important manifestation of the development of ancient Chinese philosophy and science and technology. This paper chooses Pingshan Huizhou ancient village in Yixian County of Southern Anhui Province and Yutian Hakka ancient village in Liancheng County of Western Fujian Province as sample plots, compares and analyses the topography, climate characteristics, cultural context, economic development and historical changes of the two places, and makes a detailed induction and analysis of the forms, functions and implications of water management in their landscape ecological space, and explores the similarities and differences of water management landscape between the two ancient villages to find out the connection between each other. This paper also puts forward the idea of protecting the ancient village water system landscape under the objective conditions of different regions, and explores how to inherit the traditional water management landscape of the ancient village. The research methods used in this paper include data collection research method, field investigation method, comprehensive analysis method, comparative analysis method and graphic analysis method. The research conclusions are mainly summarized in the following five aspects:(1)The water management landscape of Huizhou ancient village and Peitian Hakka ancient village in Pingshan is influenced by nature, culture, economy and the needs of users, which together constitute the causes and restrictions of the water management status of ancient villages.(2)"Man is the product of nature",and the relationship between man and nature is the relationship between "part and whole" and "subject and object".The location of ancient villages is not only the reverence and dependence of man on objective nature, but also the subjective transformation and domination of nature. The ancient village water management landscape is the rational transformation and utilization of "water" in nature.(3)From the perspective of water management space and landscape ecology of ancient villages, the water management forms of Huizhou ancient villages in Pingshan and Hakka ancient villages in Peitian are mainly divided into three types:point, line and surface, which accords with the heterogeneity summary of "patch-corridor-matrix" in landscape ecology."Point" is composed of small areas of water such as ponds and ancient wells;"line" is composed of long strips of water system landscape such as water irrigation and streams;and "surface" is composed of large areas of water such as Changning Lake and Lotus Pond.Among them, the water system of water gap garden is composed of many kinds of water system forms, such as point, line and surface, and other structures.(4)Based on the analysis of the current situation of the water system in the two villages,we can find out the problems, and put forward protection ideas of the water management forms, methods and principles in the landscape ecological environment of different regions. In order to avoid village sameness which as reason from blindly duplicating the landscape planning of ancient villages without considering the current situation and cultural traditions, realize the organic renewal and sustainable development of ancient villages while showing their unique heterogeneity,We should organically combine the landscape ecology of ancient villages, guide the water management landscape in the form of spatial structure, assist the inheritance of water management landscape with humanistic tradition, and complement each other with economic and technological development.
