After entering the 21 st century, the concept of heritage protection has become increasingly popular.Relevant decision-making activities for the protection of architectural heritage are often an irreversible major event.A little carelessness will bring irreparable permanent damage to the architectural heritage.Failure cases are common. In this paper,a scientific method, the application of multi-attribute decision-making in this important event,is discussed, and the sequencing scheme is put forward, taking the order of restoration of the ancient city wall in Suzhou as the problem to be solved. The application of multi-attribute decision-making method in the field of architectural heritage at home and abroad is very few,and the application in the city wall is almost nonexistent. But this method is very suitable for the problems to be considered from the perspective of operational research and system engineering, and the repair of the city wall itself is a system engineering, which requires interdisciplinary consideration. Therefore, the main process of this paper is to incorporate multi-attribute decision-making into city wall restoration. The main work and results of this paper are as follows:(1)According to the actual situation of the city wall in Suzhou, three kinds of multi-attribute decision-making methods are selected, which are MAVT,ELECTRE III and PROMETHEE II.(2)Through literature collation and expert consultation, the evaluation index and attribute value of the ancient city wall are determined. It includes 2 first-level indicators,8 second-level indicators and 20 third-level indicators.(3)The weight of each index is calculated by analytic hierarchy process, which paves the way for the application of later methods.(4)Three methods are applied to the restoration of ancient city walls in Suzhou and three different sorting results are obtained. The final pyramidal sorting results are obtained after synthesis: the top is Panmen section, the second is Yanmen section and Dongyuan section, the third is Xumen section,North Park section and Heping section, and the bottom is Zhenmen section,Nanyuan section,Nanmen section and Jinmen section. The results are sorted according to the value level of the city wall,so the pyramid from top to bottom reflects the value of the city wall section from high to low.(5)Three reasons for different ranking results are analyzed, including different ranking principles, different comparison criteria and different ways of using weights.Combining with the actual situation, this paper gives some prospects for the future, hoping that this method can be applied to other cities that are ready to repair or have not yet repaired their walls.
