The Revitalisation Of The Curepipe Town Centre Based On The Light Rail Transit

This paper has been prepared to partially fulfil the requirements of the Masters in Urban and Rural Planning by course work at the Beijing Jiaotong University of Beijing,Haidian District,The People's Republic of China.The purpose of this thesis is to promote town revitalisation based on the implementation of a Light Rail Transit Project.This project will focus on a particular town in Mauritius and will provide proposals on how to rejuvenate a town centre.The first phase involves reviews of the literatures related to impact of Transit Oriented Developments in towns,the evolution and impact of Town revitalisation methods.The literature also highlights how to anticipate a Light Rail Transit development in a town.Following the literature review comes the different authorities and legislations related to planning in Mauritius.The methodology highlights the steps to be undertaken and the analysis shows the data used in carrying out an analysis on the selected case study being the town centre of Curepipe.The final phase involves a proposed conceptual map made to revitalise the town centre based on the introduction of the LRT in the town centre of Curepipe.
