Research On Waterfront Landscape Lighting Design Based On Dramatic Elements

Waterfront landscape is a significant stage for some city to show economic strength and human style.With the extending of night hours and the advancement of cultural level,more and more citizen realizes the significance of the waterfront area and there are more and more demands for waterfront nightscape lighting.By now lighting is not only a way to light up the nightscape but also a way to reshape it to satisfy the needs of aesthetic and life of the people.This article,divided into three parts,encompasses the theoretical analysis of the basic principles of waterfront landscape lighting design and the application research of dramatic elements in waterfront landscape lighting.Proceeding from the basic concepts of waterfront landscape lighting,the first part illustrates the basic principles of waterfront landscape lighting such as functionality,esthetics,human care and environmental protection.General features of waterfront landscape lighting are also presented in the first part,including artistry,entertaining and territoriality.Based on the first part,the second part provides an analysis of the carriers of waterfront landscape lighting,such as structures,bridges,plants,squares and water body.Six dramatic skills including feeling,metaphor,resonance,leading,interaction and exaggeration and time-space feature of landscape lighting are induced in the third part.There is also an analysis for the application of dramatic elements on the waterfront landscape lighting in the third part,including two opposite lighting skills,realism and freehand,and several lighting design principles such as avoiding glare,reducing pollution and so on.How to apply the dramatic elements in waterfront landscape lighting to create multilayered lighting scene is the key issue of this article.The paper refers three practical cases,the lighting of Chongqing Xinglong Lake nightscape,the lighting of Gardens by the Bay and the lighting of the waterfront area of Denver Botanic Gardens,and then explains what dramatic elements can be applied in these cases.The feasibility of applying the dramatic elements to waterfront landscape lighting is successfully verified according to these cases.
