The Study Of Conservation And Design Guidelines Based On Southwest Historic Area In Taizhoufu Prefectural City

Conservation of historic areas is an important part in the conservation system of Chinese urban and cultural heritages.However,in practice,it is confronted with many difficulties such as lack of integrative conservation approach and efficient regulation.Assimilating both the indicator system from regulatory detailed planning and the urban space features from urban design,conservation and design guidelines of historic areas deepens the conservation planning and becomes an integrated space control strategy around protected elements,which conforms to the requirements of conservation planning,improves the control effect and focuses more on the integrality of urban space.The study is tightly combined with the conservation planning of southwest historic area in Taizhoufu prefectural city.Based on the framework of the conservation control system built in Taiyuanfu prefectural city conservation,we summarize the basic approach of conservation and design guidelines.Considering the principles of element classification and presentation of layouts,we take public space,architecture form and urban landscape as a whole to conserve under the compulsory constrain of scope of conservation area.Three contributions of this paper are as follows.Firstly,a universal control element database of historic areas is revised and improved through the analysis of Chinese traditional urban space elements.Applying into Southwest area,this paper proposes a method of extracting the favorable control elements from the database above and subdividing them into smaller classes according to its own characteristics.Secondly,we further study the conservation control method by means of the detailed control indicators and requirements of three critical elements in Southwest area: city wall’s scope of conservation,traditional streets and alleys,and types of residential architecture.The requirement of conservation and design is efficiently translated into practice and takes effect in urban renewal.Lastly,this paper presents a result expression of conservation and design guidelines,where the general layout with integrative information expresses the core concept,subject layouts emphasize different aspects of the expression,and sub-area layouts focus on the requirements in specific areas.In summary,the implementation feedback proves that the conservation and design guidelines,acting as an integrated space control strategy,plays an important role in the conservation practice.However,a comprehensive decision management is also necessary,which needs to be further studied.
