In Non-linear architecture design,form finding and fabrication are equally important.In addition to form finding,research into application of digital tools in fabrication is more necessary.Non-linear masonry are masonry with nonlinear form.Modern nonlinear masonry structure is facing several problems including the shape constraints of bricks,poor structure performance and complex assembling process involving frameworks.This dissertation come up with non-linear reinforced masonry to solve some of those drawbacks.To solve these problems,we investigate traditional reinforced masonry and come up with nonlinear reinforces masonry.The design of non-linear reinforced masonry requires the continuity of reinforcement.Fabricating non-standard bricks is another issue to consider.After that,we investigate the principles of tessellation and find that translation symmetry is important in this tectonic.Next,we introduce several ways of additive manufacturing and their applications in AEC industry,and discuss their pros and cons.Next,we come up with the principle for choosing tessellations based on previous tessellation research,followed by the discussion of several approaches for tessellation form finding in masonry.Afterward,we introduce some opensource additive manufacturing projects,based on which we improve its mechanic mechanism and control program to make a brick 3d printing machine.Some researches into the binder material is then conducted.Subsequently,we discussed two approach to make a brick,one using the brick 3d printing machine and another use a cast mold method.Following that is some details of this tectonic.Finally,we demonstrate its use case by two design project s.After summary,we come to conclusion: non-linear reinforced masonry is a viable tectonic.It has outstanding structure performance,novel form and is easy to assembly.It is worthy commercialization.
