As part of research on patterns in architecture, tessellation is an important tool to analyze, understand and develop patterns, and to be connected with architectural design. Not only can it demonstrate the geometry relationships behind the patterns, but also to be an approach in meshing buildings’surface (just as the original meaning of tessellation in computer science). After exploring the geometric principles in different patterns, the main purpose of this thesis, is to discuss how these principles have been integrated into basic design questions such as surface, material, elements and structure in various cases, and to find the problems and methodology while materializing patterns and tessellation principles for two purposes, visual presentation and structural fulfillment, in order to provide a new perspective and method for architectural design.
