Polar research has become a hotspot of current research due to exploitation of polar resource and opening of Arctic waterway. The ice load of icebreaker is of great significance to polar research, and numerical simulation is an efficient way to calculate ice load.Among the numerical methods currently used on sea ice simulation, finite element method(FEM)is arguably the most widely used but suffers from difficulties when simulating the crack of sea ice in which multiple damage growth interacts in complex patterns,Peridynamic has advantage on simulating crack growth but has higher computational effort than FEM.Hence,in order to take advantage of the generality of Peridynamic and the computational efficiency of fininte element when numerically calculate the ice load, this thesis use the coupling method of Peridynamic and FEM to caculate ice load, including:Theory of Peridynamic and relevant numerical methods are introduced, and the accuracy is verified by the quasi-static numerical example;Based on mechanical properties of ice and experimental data,a numerical model of ice which is suited for high loading rate condition is presented. The three-point simple beam bending process from deformation to damage is simulated;Result shows good agreement with experiment data, illustrating the capacity of numerical model on simulating deform and crack behavior of ice.The coupling method of Peridynamic and FEM is studied and implemented, several numerical examples illustrate the accuracy of the coupling method in simulating both deformation and failure, the displacement coordination between Peridynamic region and FEM region, and the efficiency of coupling method.Based on the research of numerical method and numerical model, the coupling method of Peridynamic and FEM is applied to simulate the ice breaking process of a icebreaker. The calculation results are analyzed and compared with the empirical formula, and the influencing factors of the ice load are analyzed and studied.
