With the development of the exploration of polar ocean energy, the status of the specialship-the icebreaker is more and more important. Because of the particularity of theicebreaker’s sailing area and tasks, the interaction between ice and the icebreaker is attractingmore and more attention, but the research about ice load and motion of the icebreaker is stillin its infancy stage at home and abroad, there are many problems to be solved. Based on theidealized icebreaking assumptions, in a straight sailing case of continuous icebreaking processice load and sequential motion response were analyzed in numerical simulation, a package ofresearch was conducted.(1) The physical and mechanical properties of ice were summarized, on the basis ofwhich, the idealized icebreaking assumptions during the continuous icebreaking process wereanalyzed.(2) Based on the numerical discrete of the ice floe and the hull, the determination of theimportant contact points and two intersection points between ice edge and damaged ice shapeduring the icebreaking process was confirmed.(3) The icebreaker’s straight continuous icebreaking process was numerically simulated, the instantaneous damaged ice shape and ice force were achieved, the impact of relatedparameters on the average ice force and damaged ice shape was analyzed.(4) Considering icebreaking load, propeller and rudder force and current force, the sixfreedom degree forces were calculated, then the icebreaker six freedom degree motionequations of icebreaking process were established with the fourth-order Runge-Kutta methodand the longitudinal motion, heaving and pitching coupled motion response were solved.
