The Research Of Soochow Lingering Garden History

Based on the status of that Lingering Garden's historical changes and cultural connotations haven't been comprehensively and systematically revealed,the hybrid characteristics of Lingering Garden's current space,its research methods problems and the incomplete space after the restoration of Lingering Garden in 1953,this paper takes the history time of Lingering Garden as a research clue and then studies the build and decline of Lingering Garden.At the same time,we take space changes as the research subject to study the history of Lingering Garden in Soochow.Firstly,in combing the historical changes of Lingering Garden,the paper divided the Lingering Garden space changes into four stages: Xu Family's Dong garden,Liu family's Hanbi villa,Sheng family's Lingering Garden,and the Lingering Garden in the modern period.On this basis,the paper examines the inner connections between the Lingering Garden owners and it's space changes.Then,the paper researches the garden area and the external environment,space layout,architectural and cultural connotation,stone landscaping,plant landscaping,owners' garden living style and build feelings of the four stages of the Lingering Garden.Finally,through the historical changes of Lingering Garden and the comparison and summary of the paces the four stages,the paper clarify the truth that how the garden has been inherited and renewed during rebuild,so as to know the vicissitudes of Lingering Garden better as well as the Suzhou gardens.
