Abstract/Summary:
Compared with other traditional types of illuminators,LEDs have the advantages such as high luminous efficiency, convenient package and considered to be environmentally friendly which all together makes LEDs widely applied in the domain of illumination. However, due to the nature of LED illuminators that the spectral power distribution(SPD)is relative narrow, existing standards like color rendering index(CRI)fails to thoroughly assess the quality of LEDs illuminator. And consequently, further development of LED illumination is hindered. In this paper,LED source was studied through comparison experiments,in which LED lightings with different correlated color temperatures were implemented to illuminate a wide region of familiar objects.Observers’ preferences for various lighting conditions and objects under different sources were acquired through the experiments.Correlation of experiment variables were investigated with the obtained data through repeated measures analysis of variance(rm-ANOVA)method,in order to figure out lighting preference influencing factors as well as how each factor correlates with lighting preference.According to the results,SPD is the dominating factor.Hence,it is necessary to be aware of the nature of lighting when evaluating LED illuminators and to provide new standard to assess LED lighting quality through further study.Additionally, familiarity and color characteristics of object under observation will also impact lighting preference.
