Through the history of urban development, the every change of transportation modes will greatly change the overall spatial layout and structure of the city.Under the trend of rapid development of urban rail transit, the contradiction between the target of protecting while renewing historical area and the large-scale urban construction brought by rail transit is becoming more and more acute. The thesis aims to study the contradiction between urban historical protection and rail transit development, from the macro aspect of the historical area and the rail transit network as the city's two subsystems,to the micro aspect of the issues including traditional building elements, land development mode, traffic organization and function formats of the station area. The paper analyzes every aspects of the problems faced by the development of rail transit in historical area.Aiming at those problems, the paper modifies and optimizes the original “five integration” standards of Nanjing rail transit area.It tries to put forward the “new five integration” design strategies applicable to the rail transit station area within the historical area. The “new five integration” design strategies includes traditional features and fabric integration strategy, the land integration strategy which respects the authenticity of traditional buildings, the functional integration strategy which makes full use of advantages of historical and cultural resources, the traffic integration strategy where walking transfer and temporary parking transfer takes precedence and the landscape space integration strategy which promotes continuation of historical area context. The thesis selects the urban design project of Sanshanjie Station as the practice study object, applies the “new five integration” design strategies to the urban design project aiming at the problems in the surrounding area of Sanshanjie Station. The applicability and operability of the strategies is verified in order to provide a reference sample and basis for the construction of rail transit within historical area of the same type in China.
