The Shuxiang Temple is one of Chengde's Eight Outer Temples,which together with others,forms a group of royal temples surround the east and north of the Summer Resort.The Shuxiang Temple is a mixed temple of Han and Tibetan which consists of three parts.The first half of the central axis is the traditional Chinese courtyard temple named "Galan Blue Church",the latter part is the "Mandala" rockery garden,and the west side of the central axis is the subsidiary palace.The Shuxiang Temple is the only Tibetan Buddhism temple with Manchu Lama in the Eight Outer Temples.It once stored the Manchu "The Tripitaka",and its construction is closely related to the Qianlong Emperor's Western Tour to Wutai Mountain.However,unfortunately,as most of the buildings have been destroyed and are not open to the public all the year round,the study of Chengde's Shuxiang Temple is nearly a blank space.The Paper is based on existing survey research.By sorting out historical documents,the Paper surveys the status and detailly explains the causes of the construction of the Shuxiang Temple and the process of destroying,repairing and strengthening of all the historical period.Through field mapping of building sites,use archival documents,historical photographs,etc.as restoration data,compared with the same type of buildings in the same period,speculative recovery the monolithic planes,facades,sections,and models.Finally,the Paper analyzes the location planning,the overall pattern and the design concept,etc.Chengde Shuxiang Temple has distinctive features in architectural and garden.Mainly in the following points:(1)The integration design of temple architecture and garden achieves the perfect unity of form and content.(2)From the process of transplanting Manjusri statue,explains the relationship between Chengde Shuxiang Temple,Wutai Mountain Shuxiang Temple and Xiangshan Baoxiang Temple.Reflect Qianlong Emperor's respect for filial piety and the inheritance of Manjusri worship.(3)The imitating also includes miniatures of the "Cool Mountain Five Peaks" in Wutai Mountain,and the Buddhist impressionism of the "Lion Grove" rockery,trying to reveal the influence of imitating on architecture and garden design.This article takes Chengde Shuxiang Temple as the research object,and compared with related temples,palaces and other architectural complexes,fills the gap in related research,and completes the research system of royal temples in the Qing Dynasty.
