As the important portal of waterborne transportation,estuarine waters has shown overwhelming advantages due to its position.With the rapid development of shipping industry in some regions,ships are increasing and concentrating in the vicinity of port areas.The capacity of ship traffic in the estuarine port areas directly supports the throughput of the ports.Therefore,it is of great necessity to investigate the coupled factors influencing the traffic capacity,to make out the maximum traffic capacity,evaluate the utilization of the channel and berth,and finally to provide the valuable reference for ship traffic organizing and scheduling,port logistics planning,as well as channel dredging and construction.This study comprehensively analyzes the structural characteristics of the estuarine port area,and establishes a typical queuing model for the shipping operation in an estuarine port area.Then,based on queuing theory and discrete event simulation,a traffic capacity model under the complex constraints has been developed for shipping in estuarine port area.The main work of this study is as follows:Firstly,according to the classical queuing theory,the M/M/C queuing model of estuarine port area was established based on the analysis of the regional shipping operation.Natural environment conditions were also taken into consideration when refining the theoretical traffic capacity calculation.Then,based on the discrete system simulation and queuing theory,the simulation model of traffic capacity in estuarine port area was built.The components of simulation include: ship generation,calculation of tide time window,settings of navigation closure conditions,ship loading and unloading operation,and etc.Finally,this study utilized AIS(Automatic Identification System)data to analyze the traffic flow characteristics in Tao'er River,determined the main parameters of the model,and then quantitatively calculated the traffic capacity.After the comparison between theoretical calculations and simulation results,the outputs of queuing model are used to evaluate the operation of the port in Tao'er River under the current traffic environment,to analyze the main causes of queuing.Finally,the maximum traffic capacity in Tao'er River was explored through the simulation under the different control schemes.The innovation contents are as follows:A queuing model for shipping operation in estuarine port area was deliberately tailored,which considered the whole channel system,berth and anchorage.The corresponding calculation method for traffic capacity estimation was developed.The simulation of shipping operation was achieved under the intricate constraints including visibility,wind,ice,tide time window,berthing and the efficiency of cargo-handling.
