Off-ramp and diverging area are important segments of interchange systems.Because of the confusion taken by the diverging behavior in diverging area,vehicles will distribute again in the junction of off-ramp and freeway, speed reduced, and delay happened on these segments.As the diverging vehicles increasing, decelerating lane could not providing enough space to accommodate so much vehicles,then queue is formed.So much as the queue would take up parts of mainline space.Off-ramp junctions become the bottlenecks of the interchange systems.Research on traffic stream characteristics of off-ramp junction in the interchange will resolve diverging area's actual problem of transportation and raise the transportation safety and remove bottlenecks, estimating freeway capacity and improving freeway level of service.Firstly,based on a lot of analysis and disposal for investigating data,the characteristics of traffic flow are studied.Secondly,With queuing theory and gap acceptance theory, the article has researched delays of vehicles in diverging area. Afterwards, it research capacity model of diverging area with dynamics methods. And driver behavior are also studied.Finally, traffic stream characteristic of diverging area is analyzed with traffic simulation software named TSIS.And with the results of simulation, the article has validated the delay model.
