With the increasing demand of public space in life,the privacy of language conversation is an important index of the comfort of the public spaces.Therefore,this paper hopes to find out the influencing factors and the links between various factors through the study of the privacy of language conversations,so as to achieve the purpose of protecting or suppressing conversations in the public space.Field testing cannot meet or achieve the subjective and audiovisual interaction requirements of the conversational privacy experiment.The virtual reality technology has become more and more mature,and it has also been applied in many studies.Through the subjective and objective verification of its visual simulation,it meets the experimental needs of this research.Therefore,this paper adopts a subjective research experimental method based on virtual reality audio-visual technology.This method is used to study people’s judgments on various influencing factors in the public space in order to meet the privacy of their language conversations.This paper divides the factors that affect the privacy of language conversations into two categories.The first category is control factors including gender,background sound types,and large space types in large spaces,as well as gender,background sound types,and small space types in small spaces.The types of background sounds are divided into speech sounds,music and non-verbal sounds.The types of large space are divided into three scenes by the ratio of length to width,and the types of small space are divided into three scenes by different spatial patterns.The second category is observation variables including conversation distance,background sound pressure level,reverberation and conversation sound pressure level.Subjects responded to changes in control factors in the virtual space and found the values of observation variables that they believe are best able to protect conversational privacy.According to the virtual experiment,the quantified data of each factor was analyzed to determine the influencing factors and some strategies were proposed.Results show that male in the large space tend to have higher background sound pressure level(1.9d BA),longer reverberations(0.16s),higher conversational sound pressure level(3.4d BA),and bigger conversation distances(5cm)to satisfy conversational privacy than female.When the types of background sounds are different,there is a significant difference in the value of the observed variables that people want.In the same area,the length and width ratio of the large space is negatively correlated with reverberation,conversational sound pressure level and conversation distance.It can be understood that people need more personal space and reverberation time in the "Square" space than the "Long" space.Male in small spaces tend to have higher background sound pressure level(1.3d BA)than famale,but with lower reverberation(0.1s)and higher conversational sound pressure level(2.1d BA).However,male and female have great differences in conversation distance in small space.At the same time,people are more demanding on the privacy of language conversation in semi-enclosed spaces.The reason may be that semi-enclosed spaces are more unpredictable.In addition,with greater openness of space,people want bigger background sound pressure level and longer reverberation.This research verifies and implements the research method of subjective experiment using virtual reality technology,finds the connection between the factors affecting the privacy of language conversation,and provides the basis for ensuring the privacy of people’s conversation in public space.
