With the rapid development of Chinese economy in the past several decades,the freight demand of water transport was increased dramatically.Inland river shipping industry experiences an unprecedented development opportunity.The increasing amount of ships in the Yangtze River make the waterway increasingly congested,especially in the bridge areas,which inevitably increased the safety risk for the water transport.In recent years,with the development of information technology,radar,automatic identification system(AIS)and some other navigation aid devices have been widely used in the shipping industry.As a result,an increasing number of data has been produced.The mass data with high complex degree has raised great challenge for the maritime administrator,especially in the areas like data exploration,data analysis,data understanding and data visualization.With the aim to observe and browse the mass data in a direct and interactive way,and dig up the useful information and find the hidden features,abnormity,correlation,and regular pattern from the multidimensional data,the water area of the Wuhan section of the Yangtze River is chosen as a research target area,where the traffic status information associated with ship sailing are acquired.In the meantime,the visualization expression and analytic techniques of the traffic status information are profoundly investigated.The S57 electronic navigation chart based visualization models for traffic status information of inland river ships are then proposed.On this basis,the ship traffic visualization system is finally developed.The system is beneficial to detect the traffic danger,forecast traffic accident and enhance working efficiency.The main research content in this thesis is as follows:(1)Research on the traffic status and visualization technology.The traffic flow elements indicating the traffic status and the visualization technology were firstly investigated respectively.On this basis,the research targets and elements for the ship traffic visualization were determined,as well as the required visualization technology in the system implementation.(2)Visualization modeling for traffic status information of inland river ships.Aiming at the water area of the Wuhan section of the Yangtze River and ships sailing in this area,the visualization methods were studied from three aspects: the navigational environment information,the ship traffic status information and the ship dynamic and static information respectively.Besides,the corresponding visualization technology and models were researched.(3)Design and implementation for the visualization system of the traffic status information of inland river ships.Based on the previous methods and models,the visualization system of the traffic status information for the single ship or mass ships was designed,in the meantime,the system function module was determined.Finally,aiming at the water area of the Wuhan section,the system was implemented in combination with the electronic navigation chart and the AIS data of ships.
