Yangtze River Three Gorges Project is the world’s largest water control project until now.The Three Gorges Project construction is mainly composed of the dam,hydropower plants and permanent navigation structures.Three Gorges Ship Lift is arranged at the left bank of the Three Gorges River,which isabout 1km from the Three Gorges Lock on the left side.The Three Gorges Ship Lock and the Three Gorges Ship Lift are both important parts of the Three Gorges Project,which plays an important role in the navigation of the Three Gorges.Three Gorges Ship Lift uses the program of "wire rope hoist vertical lift-type" for the preliminary design.As a result series of early domestic research are carried out,and a lot of ship lifts such as GeHeYan Ship Lift 、ShuiKou Ship Lift are established as an intermediate demonstrator for the Three Gorges Ship Lift.However,due to security and some other factors,the Three Gorges Ship Lift eventually changed to the program of "rack and pinion climbing",which placed a greater demand on the design and construction of the ship lift tower and also greater demand on the design and manufacturing of the large metal structures.Currently,the Three Gorges Ship Lift had been successfully completed the real ship test.But for the actual operation,unsteady flow characteristics of Ship Lift downstream leading channel,Large water level amplitude car disembark docked,hydrodynamics for ships entering and leaving the car boat,ship safety,operation and maintenance support,ship lift and lock matching operation,adaptability ship and other major technical problems are not yet carried out or unable to solve.These problems play a direct impact on navigation and safe operation,which are urgent study.This paper first describes the purpose and significance of the research and collect the current research status both at home and abroad.Then to make clear the ship scale restrictions,this paper assess the shipping infrastructure and the technical parameters of the Three Gorges ship lift.Through the method of theoretical analysis and physical model test combining,this paper study the speed of the ship which move in the ship lift,the relation between subsidence,draft and speed,then the ship low-speed maneuverability in limited shallow waterway.Then this paper study several aspects including hydrodynamic load of the ship,mooring force and collision.model tests of safety when ships entering and leaving the ship lift.Model tests,real ship test and regression optimization are used to analyzethe safety of typical ships or different standard displacement ship.By the result key technical requirements are analyzed to ensure navigation safety of ships which go trough the Three Gorges Ship Lift.
