A Study On The Design Of Adaptation Of Old Houses For The Aging

Many cities have become the aging society in our country since 1980 s.In 1999,China entered the aging society in all respects.As a result of China’s “non-rich aging first” special conditions and the system of social security establishment not be still perfect now,pension issue has become a very serious social problem.Affected by the traditional concepts of providing for the aged,most older people are not willing to stay in the home for the aged when their children are still alive.Mean while,most children do not want their parents spend alone in institutions for the aged.Therefore,home-based care is a main stream in retirement pattern for an extended period.This paper presents the research of the workers’ houses built over the past century in the old industrial base of Tangzha,Nantong.Reflecting on the historical development of the transformation of the old houses for the old people at home and abroad,the paper concluded some basic principles and methods of the reconstruction planning and architectural design through literature reading,case studies,comparative analysis,field research and so on.Using method of documents researching and observation of the three types of old houses included the old workers’ residential quarters at the end of the Qing Dynasty,the Soviet new workers’ residential quarters at the beginning of the foundation of PRC and the multi-storeyed workers’ residential quarters from 1970 s to 1980 s,after analysis of the current status and problems of the aged dwelling,the dissertation presents the three-step strategy of restoration of historic building--barrier free accessibility--being supplemented by green technology and intelligent technology,and countermeasures and suggestion for the reconstruction design of the existing house for the old fitness from macro,medium and micro views,and then transform from a design perspective with green and intelligent building technologies.It is anticipated that this paper would have some referential value to the existing house to be suitable for the elderly in Tangzha,Nantong and in somewhere else.This paper falls into six chapters with 94817 Chinese characters,198 illustrations(181 pictures and 17 tables)and 2 appendixes.The first chapter introduces the background,the objective and significance,the contents and difficulties and the present condition in domestic and international research,defines main concept of the paper,and at the same time,constructs the theoretical framework of the study.The second chapter represents the theories and methods of the existing house to be suitable for the elderly.The third chapter takes 3 cases in advanced countries and 4 domestic cases and makes analysis of the reconstruction.The forth chapter makes the deep research on the old residential buildings in the old industrial area in Tangzha of Nantong through visiting and investigation,and then set targets,thoughts and design strategies of the regeneration of the 3 special types of workers’ houses.The fifth chapter chooses the 3 kinds of old residential buildings to convert design in accordance with the preceding theories,methods,present condition analysis and the drawings,in order to express to the article’s theory achievement.The sixth chapter is the sum-up about the essay,presents the innovation points,the limitation and the outlook and also provide theory references for the architectural design and practice.
