The Re-cognition Of The Modem Meaning Of Chinese Traditional Gardens

The Chinese traditional garden was born on the land of China,and it has experienced more than 3,000 years of cultural accumulation and historical precipitation,created a profound and unique style of garden system,its historical position,cultural value and world contribution are beyond doubt.With the introduction of Western gardens,on the one hand,promote the cultural exchange and prosperity,on the other hand,the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional gardens have been impacted,there are different opinions on the research and discussion of Chinese traditional gardens.Generally speaking,most scholars affirmed the valuable value of Chinese traditional gardens.Dedicated to the research and exploration of bringing forth the fresh,keeping pace with the times,modern significance and protection of ethnic characteristics.However,in recent years,there are also some scholars have criticized it and even regarded as "the shortcomings and dross of feudalism",they considered that traditional garden was “fake antiques" that cannot be integrated into modern society and asserted that the traditional garden has come to a dead end.As a result,the study of Chinese traditional gardens is despised and it is difficult to move forward in the process of modernization.First of all,this paper traces the development of criticizing Chinese traditional gardens.Through reviewing,summarizing and integrating related documents,the misunderstandings and differences of traditional garden cognition can be summarized “Outmoded ideas”,“Pseudo art” and “National subjugation”.It analyzes the source and development of Chinese traditional gardens mainly from the following four phases: the encounters in modern China,the tide of reflection on traditional culture,the western learning heat after the reform and open-up,and the dispute between the “garden” and “landscape” at the end of the 20 th century,try to find out the crux of problems.Secondly,summarizes and analyzes the main problems of modern inheritance of Chinese traditional gardens.The problem is focused on the following six aspects: 1.China's traditional gardens are far away from the lifestyle of modern people,2.Chinese traditional gardens are contrary to the concept of modern ecological design,3.The form of Chinese traditional landscape gardens is no longer needed in the city,4.Chinese traditional gardens are not harmonious with modern urban architecture,5.The inheritance of traditional Chinese gardens is partial to the appearance and form,6.The environment of Chinese traditional gardens is closed and narrow.These six points not only reflect some misunderstandings of the public to traditional gardens,it contradicts what people generally think and caused a lot of controversy.In recent years,there are some new ideas about traditional garden.However,there is no systematic correction and summary of the new cognition of traditional gardens.This paper focuses on the re-cognition of the modern significance of Chinese traditional gardens.Based on the background of Chinese cultural revival,combines the research of relevant experts in the past decade and the practical exploration of the modern translation of traditional gardens by current and contemporary architectural landscape designers.From the internal logic of Chinese thinking and attitude,analyzes the misunderstandings and problems faced by Traditional Gardens in Cognition and Modern Inheritance one by one,to eliminate some misunderstanding of traditional garden,avoid ideological confusion.It is necessary to recognize its modern significance and eliminate cognitive impairment for its inheritance.Finally,explore the application of traditional Chinese garden in contemporary garden.Through the analysis of Garden method experiment and practice by Dong Yugan,Yu Ting,Wang Baozhen,Ge Ming and Wang shu,it proves that traditional Chinese gardens not approach death.Instead,we can achieve the modernity translation of traditional gardens on the operational level,to create the classic era.This is also a return to the essence of Chinese philosophical thinking.Chinese traditional gardens embody the cultural connotation of the Chinese nation,represents a unique view of nature,philosophy,values and world.It's the expression of national identity and the symbol of the land.Therefore,traditional gardens still have a strong vitality,which has a positive practical significance for the construction of Chinese contemporary garden discourse power and cultural confidence.We should re-examine and interpret traditional gardens with a new perspective and an open mind and make sure that the design back to the root of national culture.
