At present, with the repid development of the Chinese economy, people pay more and more attention to the development of railway and locomotive vehicles.Locomotive traction motor is an important part of locomotive. An advanced requirement of the heat dissipation is raised for locomotive traction motor as the locomotive running speed is greatly improved. The cooling effect of locomotive traction motor is the key to the safe, smooth and normal operation of locomotive. The rationality of the ventilation structure has become the most important part of the design. With the rapid development of computer technology and the continuous progress of CFD technology.CFD technology has become the most widely used method in the analysis and design of locomotive traction motor cooling and ventilation system. It not only saves time and effort, but also can simulate the real conditions of special size and high temperature, which make up for the deficiency of the traditional design. This paper takes locomotive traction motor cooling ventilation system as research object, establish three-dimensional model of the ventilation system by software Creo.Building CFD computing platform using SIMPLE algorithm in ANSYS FLUENT,using the standard k-?two equation turbulence model and analyzing the structure of locomotive traction motor cooling ventilation system, based on the structure to conduct numerical simulation calculation for internal flow field. The distribution of the gas flow characteristics, the internal velocity and pressure in the locomotive traction motor cooling ventilation system is obtained.According to this analysis, adjust the internal structure of the traction motor and the optimization scheme is obtained, which enable the flow and pressure of the locomotive traction motor tends to be uniform as well as meets the traction motor cooling requirements.
