In the past ten years,the development of China high speed railway industry has caught global attention.This achievement benefits not only from the technical breakthrough from foreign introduction to independent innovation,but from high speed railway infrastructure construction.Although we have made outstanding achievements,we must realize that there are still a series of problems to be solved in the construction of high-speed railway projects.Project delay is a common problem in these problems,which is more prominent in feeder projects.Project managers generally recognize that scientific concept and method of project schedule management are essential factors for achieving project objectives.As an advanced project management tool,critical chain is not only recognized by many scholars,but also verified by practice in various industries.However,in the existing literature,the application of critical chain technology in the high-speed railway project is very few.Is this scientific project management method applicable to the schedule management of high-speed railway projects?How to apply?How effective is it?All these questions need empirical tests.Based on high speed railway feeder Qingdao-Rongcheng intercity Weihai Station modification project,this article analyzes the problems of project schedule management based on critical path method in the early stage of the project,and emphasizes that when the project has been greatly postponed,we must introduce a new schedule management method if we want to ensure that the project is completed on schedule.On the basis of fully understanding the technical methods and application practices of critical chain,the project management team determined to replace critical path method with critical chain technology.Considering the time requirement and the resource input,project department strictly formulated a new time schedule with a number of supporting measures to carry out comprehensive supervision and control on the implementation of the project following the key chain technology operation process.The implementation result showed that after application of critical chain technology in project progress management,the project progress was effectively monitored,the time of the early delay was recovered,and the realization of the overall progress goal of the project was ensured.Research on Qingdao-Rongcheng intercity railway Weihai Station modification project shows that the critical chain technology determining the overall plan by regarding the entire project as one,excluding resource constraints by optimizing project resource allocation,scientifically setting buffer areas and other management methods,overcame the shortcomings of traditional schedule management and ensured that the project can be completed ahead of schedule.The analysis shows that critical chain technology is an effective means of schedule management for high-speed railway projects.Of course,since the station modification is only a part of the complex high speed railway project,the practicability of the critical chain technology is still to be further tested.
