Study On Protection And Renovation Of The Guodong Rural Settlement In Dongshan

The traditional settlement,as a symbol of the regional culture characteristics and the wisdom and technique of the labouring people,is a system of living space which is generated and evolved by human activities based on the natural environment,the social environment and the cutural environment outside of the system.However,as the industrialization and urbanization in China society,traditional settlements have been hit by unprecedented impacts.Many traditional settlements have been faded or even disappeared in the past 20 years.In recent days,it is a topic of serious concern that how to protect and renovate traditional settlements in a reasonable and effective way.Located in Dongshan Island of Zhangzhou,Fujian Province,Donggu Village has a history of more than 400 years.In 2015,it was named the first batch of Fujian provincial-level traditional villages.Guodong Village is one of the four natural villages in Donggu administrative village,and it's also the eldest and the most complete one of them.Guodong Village has many traditional residences with old lanes among them,which stored a lot of rich regional culture.However,after the 1980s,the local people which had lived in Guodong constantly left or moved out from their hometown.Then the residences in the village were vacant and lack of protection,many of them were wasted or collapsed.Now the streets of the village is full of weeds and rubbish,and a large number of new modern houses were built in the south of the village.The scene of traditional settlements has gradually been destroyed.This thesis takes the traditional settlements of Dongduo Village as the research object,by using the field research as the main method,combining literature review,inductive comparison,and systematic methods.The thesis investigates and studies the natural environment,social and cultural environment of the traditional settlements in Donggu Village.Based on these information,then the thesis studied and summarized the site selection,the orientation,the layout and the space structure of Guodong Village.Then,the types of the buildings,the flat type,the construction system,the building components,and the architectural decoration of the overwintering village were carried out.The thesis,in the final part,combined with the current condition of the traditional settlements in the Donggu Village,as well as analyzing the superior policies and plans and other elements,developed protection and renovation strategies for the Guodong village.In this paper,through the practical study of a typical coastal traditional village of Guodong Village,we hope to provide ideas and practical experience for the protection and renovation of traditional settlements in other regions of China.
