Basic education is the cornerstone of national development,while primary and secondary schools are the carriers of the basic education in our country and the environmental space that accompanies the important stages of student growth and learning.With the continuous development of education reform,quality education has begun to focus on cultivating students’ innovative spirit and practical ability.The idea of innovative education has brought quality education to a new level.At the same time,the concept of innovative education has begun to create new requirements for the architectural space of primary and secondary schools.It provides suitable public space for students’ innovative awareness and innovative ability as well as the development of independent learning,promotes the development of students’ individuality and interest,and promotes the subjectivity of student’s development.However,the simple and boring spatial forms existing in most primary and secondary school buildings in China cannot satisfy the development of new educational concepts and the current needs of students’ growth and learning.In the process of the primary and secondary school buildings design,there is often a lack of adequate theoretical and empirical guidance,and also fewer people consider the key role that public spaces play in the teaching process and the development of student cognition.Therefore,under the background of the current deepening of educational reforms and concepts,and the rapid development of society,the school uses the indoor and outdoor public spaces to create a good environment for students to learn,interact,and communicate.How to adapt to the changing needs of the public exchanges and activities on the environment.How to satisfy students’ various behavioral activities and provide choices for diversified public spaces,promote the students’ sense of innovation and spirit,and cultivate the practical exploration spirit.The research on the design of public space in primary and secondary schools has very important practical significance.This article focuses on the study of the public space design of primary and secondary schools under the concept of innovative education.Based on fully understanding the concept and development of China’s innovative education,analyzing the development of foreign primary and secondary school buildings and their influence and inspiration on our country,the problems existing in the public space of primary and secondary schools have been conducted in-depth research and their development trends and needs have been analyzed under the concept of innovative education in China.Based on a large number of relevant literature,case collection and statistics,and field research,the changes in teaching patterns under the educational philosophy and the development of students’ psychological behavior patterns and the influence and development trend of school public space have been studied.Through the existing deficiencies in the traditional public space of primary and secondary schools and the main development trend of public space under the concept of innovative education,the constituent elements of public space are combined and then analyzed.Also,analyzing and classifying domestic and foreign outstanding cases of middle and lower schools,the design methods of public spaces which are suitable for primary and secondary schools in China are explored.the concept of new public spaces in schools and their construction strategies are put forward.Therefore,the content of this article has positive and practical significance for the construction of primary and secondary schools that adapt to innovative education concepts.
