The Dominican Republic is located in the Hispaniola island, where it shares the land with its neighboring country Haiti.Recently logistics is becoming an important element of competitiveness and economic performance in the increasing demand for globalization.According to the Mercado magazine,Dominican Republic keeps improving their transportation systems due to the fact that enterprises have understood the benefits it can bring to have a developed transport infrastructure and its services. This research centralizes on the airport logistics of the country.Investigating and measuring airport competitiveness has called the attention of several researchers in the past. The competitiveness between airports is different between international and national airports. This affects the economic and political situation in different regions of the world or country. An example is the economic factors, which can be easily measured, however when it comes to logistical information, also political, etc are harder to obtain the information. Therefore the Dominican Republic does not have any previous investigations about this specific topic;however,it has been investigated before in other parts of the world. In 2015 the city of Santiago is responsible for twenty-five percent of the domestic consumption of imports and its industrial parks account for forty percent of the country's exports. On the other hand we have the city of Punta Cana where The Punta Cana International Airport is located, specifically in the Punta Cana Resort&Club. The airport is owned and operated by a private company called CAE and according to their website the airport has the biggest transit of passengers and destinations in the country and was the first international private airport in the world.Nonetheless, with these benefits it was still decided to compare them and analyze which one is more efficient in competitiveness. For this study,a general objective was defined, which is to compare the Airport Logistic Competitiveness between the Cibao International Airport and The Punta Cana International airport in the Dominican Republic. This general objective was broken down into three specific objectives, which also answer the questions of the investigation in a more detailed way.The specific objectives of this study are:compare the physical structure of both airports, evaluate the efficiency of passenger flows in the airports, and finally,to identify the cargo flows in their cargo terminals.Starting from the specific objectives, the airport competitiveness index system is created and each one of the variables and their indicators is broken down, using different authors that support the study. There is also an introduction about each factorthat was considered important in the index, such as runway, terminals, aircraft parking spaces,a dimension of the runway, ticket counters, passenger flows,immigration/emigration position, logistic operators, cargo traffic, airport connectivity and airport operations. In the last chapter is mainly about the final conclusion of what the investigator came with and some recommendation that will be directed to the airport entities in the country as well as possible airport competitors outside of the Dominican Republic. An example of this:even though we are comparing the effectiveness of two international airports in the country, both of them have a strength where the other one is weak on,but that does not mean that could not be considered number one airport in the country.
