| During the Rio de Janeiro Earth summit in 1992,sustainability was defined as the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In China, during the last decades of urban development, the urban transport development has been one of the main issues. However, traffic congestions and the high pollution level due to the transportation system are still increasing. It indicates that to only expand transport infrastructures in a city is not a solution.Indeed,in the future,a more effective solution could be the reorganization of the transportation system and a reduction of the use of private vehicles including the implementation of non-motorized transport(NMT)like walking and biking and a multi-modal public transit system. But to keep effectively cars out of cities or reduce the use of private transport without making cities less attractive and efficient,it is necessary in the first step,to rethink the parking situation which nowadays,we all agree with that, doesn’t fit with the sustainable standards we would like to achieve. This means to improve the parking space management,to set up parking reforms and also to build new more suitable multi-storey car parkings. In this work,we will:●Introduce and analyze the "house of cars".●Define the concept of sustainability with the focus on urban mobility and the car-free city concept.●Present different foreign car parking designs which follow the sustainability principle by having different focuses and find out how a car parking can achieve those goals.●With this background,we will do an urban analysis of Shenyang and the Hunnan district with the focus on the transportation system and develop a sustainable multi-storey car parking. |
