A Research On Modern Christian Churches In Dalian

In the second half of the 19 th century,the imperialist powers segregated China,forcing the Qing government to sign a series of unequal treaties,opening up a large number of coastal ports,rented large tracts of land.Dalian became one of the earliest leased lands,and as the colony of the Japanese and Russian imperialists for a long time in the modern history of China.This particular time background gave Dalian a unique exotic culture,in terms of architectural art,reflected in its large quantity and of many types of exotic buildings.The Christian churches,which as a novel and special form of architecture,were brought in with the influx of Western missionaries,are incompatible with local traditional architecture,both from their construction and cultural and artistic point of view.But as an important part of the modern architectural cultural heritage,they reflect the social and historical background and the highest level of architectural skills at that time.It has an important historical and cultural and architectural value.It is of big impact and great significance to the development of modern urban architecture and the formation of modern urban culture in Dalian.In more than half a century,from the colonial occupation period of Russian and Japanese,to the dawn of liberation,the Western Christian churches have been established a large number of churches here for missionary and religious activities.This paper takes the modern Christian churches in Dalian as the research object,first discusses the spread of Christian religious culture in Dalian area and the evolution of its church buildings.The history and distribution of the modern Christian churches in Dalian have been analyzed in detail,through the collection and research of historical documents and related works of Christian churches in modern history of Dalian,combined with field investigation.After the basic study of the background of modern Christian churches in Dalian.To have a more comprehensive understanding of the history and the architectural features of the churches in Dalian since the colonial period.And analyze several typical examples one by one,which selected from the better preserved existing Christian churches for field investigation based on the first-hand research data.Then,an overall analysis from the perspective of architecture of their historical evolution,courtyard layout,architectural style and details,based on the analysis of historical data and field investigation.And discuss the local characteristics of the Christian churches in Dalian and their impact on urban architecture and culture compared with the Christian churches in Europe and in other parts of China.At last,it further explores the value,use and protection of Christian church buildings in Dalian.
