The Study On Renewal Strategy Of Historical District Under The Urban Catalyst Theory

Historic district as an important organization of the urban context highlighting the regional culture characteristics.With the rapid urbanization process of China,urban renovation launched an unprecedented scale,the status and development of historic district is faced with enormous challenges.According to amount of practical engineerings on urban redevelopment,there are two extremes about the renewal of historic district:thoroughly revolution result in the damage of culture or fully protection but the loss of dynamic development,so historic district need to slove the tension between protection and development.At the end of 1980s,in the field of American institute of architects brought forward forward a new theory urban design theory named as "urban catalyst":a operation of constant and gradual urban construction.As a update pattern of virtuous circle may bring about subsequent series of operational programs,urban catalyst provides feasibility for relieving renewed contradictions of our historic district.For further elaborating theoretical system on renewing historic district,summed up them three types:functionalism,spazialismo and humanism.By explaining origins,concepts,operational strategies and practical application of urban catalyst theory,framed the theoretical framework of this study.Illustrating the application,operational processes,operational characteristic of the theory and variety of catalytic forms on the area of historic district renewal,explored to establish the historic district updating strategies.Catalytic strategy as means to achieve historic district renewal,required the comprehensive utilization of function,space,culture.By selecting two types instance of historic district:Changsha Tongguan Street and Taiping Street,confirms the operational mode of the urban catalyst and catalytic strategies depending on specific conditions.Tongguan Street renewal identified the functional remodeling of historic industrial architectures and "original" form of cultural extension as the corresponding catalytic strategy,Taiping Street renewal determine successful integration of function and reshape street space to be the catalytic strategy,through analysis on the vertical and horizontal comparison with two cases,proposed availably catalytic strategy on the sustainable historic district renewal.Finally,a conceptual design of historic district serves as a real attempt of the urban catalytic strategy,in order to provide experience and lessons for historic district renewal successfully.
