Abstract/Summary:
Global warming has become an international hot issue.197 countries and regions sign the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.According to the World Resources Institute, carbon dioxide is the most emitted greenhouse gas, accounting for 77 per cent of total greenhouse gas emissions.Carbon reduction efforts are particularly important. As the world’s largest carbon emitters,China has actively assumed responsibility for reducing emissions and promises to reach a peak of carbon emissions by 2030,and the carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP will decrease by 60%-65% compared with 2005.Thermal power as China’s main source of carbon emissions, the establishment of its emission reduction mechanism is particularly important. However,China’s monitoring system is not yet perfect as the calculation method and the latest default value are in doubt.Based on the above problems, this article conducts research from four parts, and puts forward suggestions for the construction of a monitoring system for the Chinese thermal power industry and monitoring methods suitable for long-term development. The first part, from the laws and regulations, technical standards and other aspects of the domestic and foreign carbon emission monitoring system experience. It is found that there is a problem of the lack of technical specifications of online monitoring method in China, and it is suggested to strengthen the top-level design of regulations and policies and improve the supporting technical specifications. In the second part, through principal analysis of China’s carbon calculation method, the emission factor method is quick and convenient at a low cost but is vulnerable to human factor, making the data not as accurate and instant as that of the online monitoring method. The emission factor method can satisfy the carbon market at an early stage but in the future online monitoring method should be considered. In the third part, the technical investigation of the continuous emission monitoring systems from China and the US that are applied to the carbon emission monitoring for thermal power generation indicates that, the monitoring equipment mainly takes complete samples from the horizontal gas pass in China and takes diluted samples from the stack in the US.In the fourth part,by calculating the carbon emission of the six sets of factors corresponding to the real-time value and the latest default value, the result shows that the default value is 20% more than the real-time value, implicating a wide fluctuation range and the deviated reference of the latest default value. An identified data trend is found between the online monitoring method and the emission factor method by comparison, proving the feasibility of online monitoring method in the carbon emission monitoring for thermal power generation.Additionally, that the load change in the boiler has impact on carbon emission is concluded by analyzing the carbon emission amount, density and gas flow.
