At present,the energy consumption structure of China is changing,with oil and natural gas rising in it.Due to the uneven distribution of these two kinds of energy,long-distance transportation is needed,while long-distance transportation of oil and gas mainly adopts pipeline transportation.Spiral welded pipes are often used in oil and gas pipelines,and are also widely used in long-distance transmission pipelines such as chemical industry,power,heat,water supply and drainage,steam heating,penstocks for hydropower stations,thermal power generation,water sources,and other engineering fields like piling,dredging,bridges,and steel structures.The edge milling machine is a kind of equipment for processing the edge of strip steel in the production process of spiral welded pipe.It is used for cutting both sides of strip steel to produce groove shape that can meet the welding process.As an ideal welding groove processing equipment,the groove shape cut by the edge milling machine is conducive to forming and welding because of the good consistent,the accurate angle and the high finish.For the thick strip steel,x-groove can be processed to reduce the error of the strip width and the cutting amount of the single side,which can effectively reduce strip consumption,save production cost and increase economic benefits for manufacturers.Therefore,the research on the edge milling machine is of great value and significance to the spiral welded pipe industry.This paper mainly studies the structure of the edge milling machine and optimizes the design of the edge milling machine.First of all,based on the analysis of the research status of the edge milling machine at home and abroad,the important significance of the edge milling machine for the production of spiral welded pipes is expounded and the overall structure of the edge milling machine is designed and the structure and working principle of the main parts are analyzed,including the design calculation and strength check of main parts,the finite element analysis of main parts such as power unit,width adjusting screw and base to make the maximum deformation and maximum equivalent stress meet the requirements of the strength and stiffness.Secondly,through the modal analysis of the power unit and the base,it is found that it is not easy to cause resonance if the natural frequency of the equipment is far away from the working frequency of the motor(vibration source)with the modals mainly concentrated within 230 Hz.The modal shapes are reflected by the bending deformation at the joint of the the motor and the box.According to the analysis of the modal shape,the improvement measure is put forward.That is to strengthen the rigidity of the junction between the motor and the box in power unit appropriately.Thirdly,through the topology optimization design of the base and the box,the size of diagonal brace plate,panel,vertical plate of the base and the size of the upper plates,lower plates and vertical plates on both sides of the box are thinned.And the optimized results are also checked to meet the requirements of strength and stiffness.Finally,in view of the problems in field use,a feasible structural improvement plan was proposed.In this paper,the main structure of the edge milling machine of the spiral welded pipe unit is designed;the strength is checked by the classical checking method and the finite element analysis method;the topology is optimized;the dynamic performance of the system is studied by the finite element method;the possible influence of the rotating vibration of the motor on the system is considered,and the modal analysis of the power device is carried out.The edge milling machine of the spiral welded pipe unit can not only meet the actual needs of the project,but also the design method has certain reference significance for the design of similar machinery.
