The Integration And Application Of Landscape Culture Upon Modern Furniture Design

Landscape culture is an indispensable part of China's historical culture,for its origin is rooted in the nature of life,then gradually endowed with aesthetic values as people's aesthetic activities are still being developed,as well as its spiritual value and philosophical connotation bestowed within people's spiritual events,no matter how history moves on.What's more,landscape culture,whose richness of historical heritage is within people's inner heart,reflects aesthetic,educational,philosophical,economic and environmental values against the background of which cultural confidence and national creativity have been established and enhanced in the international community,all of which are worthy of being extracted and adopted.As the one of the spiritual symbols,the landscape culture is imbedded with such peculiarities that “man is an integral part of nature” upon both designs and daily lives.What's more,perceived as a visual sign,the landscape culture can abundantly present visualized elements,such as misty clouds,gurgling water,strange rocks and ravines,and lush trees,which can be extracted as well as integrated into the product design.As a result,landscape culture has become a nationally-marked one in the world.Furthermore,as one of the most important products of the human beings,furniture enjoys a long history in China,since furniture of Qing and Ming dynasties signifies as the important milestone in the worldwide furniture history.Influenced by the speedily-developed modern industrialization and the progression of social and economic integration,people hold the expectation towards such furniture that can meet and have the Chinese aesthetic standards and spiritual connotation on the premise that functional requirements have been satisfied.That is,it is integrating traditional culture into furniture design as well as creating Chinese aesthetic life that is an access to forming Chinese style,to enhancing the influence all over the world,to spreading the national cultures and to boosting the national pride.However,at present,the design and manufacture of Chinese-styled modern furniture that are still in the stage of exploration and development need improving and updating by next generations.The thesis focuses on analyzing the concept and the forming background of landscape culture,summarizing its unique value and illustrating its aesthetic value and spiritual connotation on the basis of stepping into the carrier of landscape culture.Based on interpreting and exploring the characteristics of Chinese-styled modern furniture,its innovation has been oriented as four aspects--the structure,materials,decoration and humanized design philosophy,leading to expounding upon the combination of traditional and modern furniture of China.Moreover,integrating the traditional furniture with the modern one means extracting and abstracting the cultural codes and symbols,as well as retrospecting the national cultural minds and absorbing the modernized design means.Then specific cases related to advantages of combining landscape culture with the modern product design should be introduced,analyzed and illustrated,as three overall aspects--modelling,decoration and affection can be pondered upon from the angles of landscape culture and modern furniture design's mixture and application.The conclusion is therefore inferred to proceed the product design and make the completion of the key issue.The study upon the selected subject is good at promoting the accumulation of practices of the nationalized design,opening up a new access to the current design activities in China.
