Research On Theory Of Ecological Imperialism Of Foster

Since 1960 s,with the development of science,the imperialist invasion of third world countries turned from the political,economic and culture to ecological field.Ecological imperialism began to appear.John Bellamy Foster carried out a systematic research on the ecological imperialism and formed a theory.We try to study this theory to figure out the core concepts,era background and theoretical sources of it.We think,imperialism,ecological imperialism and ecological socialism are the core concepts of Foster's theory.The era backgrounds are the increasingly internationalized environmental crisis,the increasingly politicized energy crisis,and the increasingly globalized ecological movements.And the theoretical sources are ecological thoughts of Marx and Engels,Imperialism theory of Lenin and neo-imperialist.Foster analyzed the causes,characteristics and consequences of ecological imperialism,and proposed to surpass ecological imperialism through the ecological revolution and realize the ideal of ecological socialism.He thinks the ecological imperialism was influenced profoundly by the western centralism,anthropocentrism and hegemonism.Compared with the traditional imperialism,ecological imperialism has the characteristics of more concealed expansion methods,more cruel expansion methods,and more destructive expansion results.The external expansion of ecological imperialism has deepened the contradiction between man and nature,exacerbated the international antagonism,and caused a "material transformation fracture" worldwide.On this basis,Foster believes that ecological socialism can be achieved only by changing the production relations of capitalism through the ecological revolution.At present,China has made some achievements in the construction of ecological civilization,but there are still some problems.It mainly includes the following five aspects: first,there are disadvantages in the current economic development and consumption methods;second,the external threats to ecological security are becoming increasingly serious;third,the ecological civilization system system has yet to be perfected;fourth,ecological civilization awareness and ecology The lack of security concepts;Fifth,the construction of ecological civilization lacks the extensive participation of the people.In this social context,Foster's ecological imperialism theory has important implications for the construction of a socialist ecological civilization in China.It mainly includes the following five aspects: one is to establish green production methods and lifestyles;the other is to promote the construction of a community of human destiny with ecological civilization;the third is to promote the construction of ecological civilization with the advantages of the socialist system;Awareness of ecological civilization and the concept of ecological security.Fifth,rely on the people to build a socialist ecological civilization.Foster used the basic Marxist viewpoints and methods to analyze the ecological damage caused by ecological imperialism,explored ways to change ecological imperialism,and to a certain extent adhered to the analysis method of historical materialism of Marxism and developed Lenin's imperialism The theory reveals the anti-ecological nature of ecological imperialism,and demonstrates the historical inevitability of socialism,which has certain rationality.But it is undeniable that Foster's ecological imperialism also has certain historical limitations.We believe that its theory weakens the basic contradiction of ecological imperialism and ignores the issue of alienation of people.At the same time,its way of transcending ecological imperialism is not practical,and the ecological socialism after transcendence has fallen into "utopia".
