The classical Chinese furniture has a long-standing history and an impressive heritage.In the Ming and Qing dynasties,the manufacture of furniture achieved an unprecedented period of flourishing.Whether historically preserved objects,calligraphic drawings or equally historical objects,they present us the glorious impression of the furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties.This thesis will address Yanqin Yiqing(This gladdens the heart and calms the spirit in the imperial chambers).The representation of the furniture in this collection of drawings is considered as the object of this research.By looking at other drawings of the Ming and Qing dynasties,similar historical materials,this is elaborated into the main point of discussion.Through methods such as comparing the representation of furniture in drawings and references of the same timeline,as well as editing other information about the furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,it will be possible to discuss the style and age of the furniture in the collection of drawings.At the same time,assumptions about the time of origin and the artist should be made in this process.The thesis focuses on the furniture in the drawing collection as the object of research First,the images of Qiu Ying,Tang Yin,Yin Qi,three famous artists of the Ming Dynasty,are used to compare the drawn furniture crosswise according to its shape.Then the furniture presented in the drawing collection will be discussed by using the established references.Finally,the detailed ornamentation of the furniture will be examined in greater depth.Using a combination of theory and concrete examples,the aspects of artistic craftsmanship,social customs during the Ming and Qing Dynasties,antique constructed objects,quality of culture,aesthetic standards and social habits are to be analysed.The painting scene of the drawing collection Yanqin Yiqing is extremely exquisitely delicate,the content is illustrated in great detail and it is one of those drawings which embodies the secular perception.In the drawing collection,we can not only savour the everyday furniture of the benevolent inhabitants of the Ming and Qing dynasties,but also find some important insights into the cultural meaning which is hidden in these illustrations.The furniture represented in the drawing collection,everyday situations,are of immense importance for the research of the arts and crafts of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the antique objects,the research of the social customs of the culture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and their aesthetic standards.The implements,clothes,landscape,especially the ones used for the representation of the furniture from the drawing collection has,for us,in the age of text analysis,the function of completing the lack of literary content.
