Study On Furniture History Of Ming Dynasty Based On Humanities And Sociology

"Study On Furniture History of Ming Dynasty Based on Humanities and Sociology", focused on the historical, cultural and social background of the creation and development of furniture of Ming Dynasty, is probing into the vivid and subtle relation between furniture and people's lifestyle, taste, ideas and personality, and the relation between furniture and economics, politics, science, technology and institution, etc. in Ming Dynasty. From this research we will realize that as a final outcome of culture and technology in a special historical period, and as a substantial carrying of people's life and spirit, the creation and development of furniture has its necessary historical and regional characteristics, and the common aesthetical and spiritual basis beyond time and space as well. Part One: "Furniture of Ming Dynasty", briefly introducing the shapes, crafts and materials of furniture of Ming Dynasty, we probe and conclude the physical characteristics of these furniture in a scientific and objective way. Part Two: "Humanities and Sociological View of Furniture of Ming Dynasty", is divided into three subdivisions, one is "Furniture and Life", one is "Craftsman and Crafts", and the other one is "Wood and Trade". In this part, we will put the furniture back into people's various life scenes, in order to catching the real relation between furniture and life, and abstracting the beauties, spirits and personalities contained in furniture; we will connect the whole historical and social background with the handicraft industry of making furniture to have an in-depth understanding; we will probe into the circulation and trade of wood in Ming Dynasty to form a deeper understanding of the peculiarities of the material of furniture of Ming Dynasty. Part Three: "Conclusion", concluding part of the thesis. In this part, we retrospect some basic issues of design and production of modern furniture inspired from furniture of Ming Dynasty. Through this relatively superficial research, we hope to form a new view of furniture of Ming Dynasty based on humanities and sociology, and therefore we can get some subtle understanding of this outstanding furniture style of Chinese classical furniture by conceiving the complicated connections among furniture, people and society. Meanwhile, we hope to grasp some common basis in aesthetics and spirits of Chinese classical furniture by learning more about furniture of Ming Dynasty. And also we believe the research of furniture of Ming Dynasty has rich inspiration and reference for design, production and life of our time.
