Taking the revival of domestic traditional trend and vigorously promoting the construction of ecological civilization as the background of the times, this project keeps a foothold on natural dyeing techniques, and focuses on geometric patterns on fabrics of Song Dynasty which are simple, diverse and typical, finally, combines the former two with modern casual clothing design.Because the Song Dynasty is the peak period for the development of Chinese traditional geometric patterns.Three original intentions of design-simplicity,lightness,and frankness in the integration,in order to meet the modern people's pursuit of personalized life of high-quality.The integration demonstrates self-confidence in Chinese culture. The dissertation is divided into six chapters.Chapter one is the introduction section. The second and third chapters are the basic research sections. The fourth chapter is the application research section. The fifth chapter is the practice research section. The sixth chapter is the conclusion and section of prospect of research. The first chapter is the section of introduction. It explains the research background, purpose and significance of the project, and defines the content and scope of the research object. It also introduces and comments on the research status domestic and abroad, and analyzes the key points, difficulties and innovation points of the project, and determines the study methods and technical route. The second chapter focus on the basic research of natural dyeing theory.Natural dyeing originates in China.Based on reading the predecessors' works, the writer figures the development path, technique types and aesthetic characteristics of natural dyeing out.Natural dyeing is effective in comfort modern people who are suffering from life pressure and tense work.Because natural dyeing has plenty of advantages, such as using natural materials, colorful and fragrant, with diversity of style, safe and having profound cultural heritage. The third chapter focuses on the basic research on the geometric patterns on fabrics of Song Dynasty.Under the influence of neo-confucianism in Song Dynasty, the development of geometric patterns tended to be decorative and stylized. The popularity of neat geometric patterns on fabrics was so high, and was only after that of realistic floral patterns.Up to now, there is not much systematic study on the geometric patterns on fabrics of Song Dynasty. This project classifies motifs and composition of geometric patterns on fabrics of the Song Dynasty from the perspective of art. After doing analysis of relics and study of literature materials, the project speculates about the cultural causes of popularity of geometric patterns on fabrics of Song Dynasty. The fourth chapter focuses on interpretation of designs which take natural dyeing and traditional geometric patterns as cutting points. These designs combine both traditional and fashion elements as well, such as some certain designs of "Chu He Ting Xiang"????,"Life on the Left"????,"M1992","FDMTL" and other domestic and foreign brands'.The project pays special attention to colors, patterns and techniques, then explores the graphic design and three-dimensional design of geometric patterns on clothing which is made by natural dyeing fabrics, and takes these designs as design reference. In order to expand the reference range of design practice, the focus here is extended to the range of traditional geometric patterns. The fifth chapter focuses on design practice. The project takes the geometric patterns on fabrics of Song Dynasty as the inspiration source, and combines the natural dyeing techniques and the knitting decoration techniques. It takes the loose and comfortable casual clothing as the final product to realize the complete display of printing and dyeing, pattern design and texture presentation. In this section, the project focuses on two series of designs in practical research. The first one is entitled Man ?.It is inspired by lozenge pattern, which is quite popular in the geometric patterns on fabrics of the Song Dynasty. The works show graphic geometric patterns and their fabrics dyed by indigo, hematoxylin, and phellodendron, with nowadays popular bandages and flounces. The second one is entitled Ji ?.It is inspired by lozenge pattern and coin pattern which was famous in Song Dynasty. The works show three-dimensional geometric patterns and their fabrics dyed by indigo, gallnut and phellodendron, with tie-dyeing,knitting and fringes. These designs aim to inherit traditional culture and skills and spread contemporary fashion, and recall handmade products, and pursue healthy life.Important research steps such as fabrics display and colors extraction, dyeing creative practice and finished products display and analysis are shown in the form of texts and illustrators. The sixth chapter is the conclusion and prospect section. It concludes the summary of the research results and the plan for the future work. The way which combines traditional elements with the aesthetics of modern times by matching colors and using rich decoration is creative and feasible. The project does natural dyeing to express clear, simple and regular geometric patterns on fabrics of Song Dynasty, then uses them to the design of women's casual clothing. In future work, the research team will continue to study traditional dyeing and weaving, and on this basis, adopt more techniques to integrate them with fashion elements. The project will also increase input in the marketing of products.
