As the English middle class entered the political arena in the 19th century,the"Victorian spirit"after the industrial revolution was formed in society which shows the simple and plain style of middle-class clothing.This style can be traced back to the late of 17th century that English male aristocratic clothing---the birth of the Charles?'s vest.The appearance of the vest marks that the style of male aristocracy began to change from luxury to simplicity.The three-piece suit has promoted the development of the new fashion,which has had an important impact on the British and world fashion.Affected by the design idea of men's wear,women's wear integrates the simple and elegant concept into the design of women's wear,which makes many international famous brands appear neutral aesthetic characteristics.In the 18th century,the trading of clothes by the British lower class caused subtle changes in all levels of the British society.The emergence of the three-piece suit was the beginning of the modernization of men's wear.It is an object that originally belonging to the aristocracy,however,it can be gradually accepted by the lower and middle classes in the social changes,losing its original function of marking identity.The problem which the paper to be solved is how the cultural symbols refines the values of aristocracy,how to be accepted by the class that has become an enduring trend.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part discusses the historical background of the emergence of three-piece suit,and analyzes the impact of the ruling crisis of the aristocracy in the 17th century,the impact of artistic and cultural factors trends on people's lifestyle,and the impact of the rise of national consciousness in England on the reform of British clothing.The second part discusses the evolution of the three-piece suit which from the corset to the waistcoat invented by Charles?,to the trousers replacing the breeches.The third part discusses the relationship between three-piece suit and masculinity.Through the analysis of the concept of masculinity,it links masculinity with the male characteristics contained in the three-piece suit.From the aristocratic masculinity to the middle-class masculinity,the meaning of the suit has been changed.The fourth part discusses the influence of men's three-piece suit,it also has an important impact when it became a worldwide fashion.As a symbol of value,it brings the design concept of men's wear into the design of women's wear,and also has a profound effect on British society.Based on the analysis of the historical background,evolution process,relationship with modern masculinity and the influence of three-piece suits,this paper deepens the understanding and research on the British three-piece suits in terms of fashion history,the values of the aristocracy and the significance of modern masculinity.
