At present,sandwich insulation materials were mainly made of honeycomb sandwich structure and foam sandwich structure,which have good thermal insulation properties,but in the process of application,the core layer and the surface layer are split due to low velocity impact.The three-dimensional integral hollow materials overcome disadvantages of the poor impact resistance in a certain extent,but affect the material performance with increased thickness,and the above materials are not suitable for high temperature conditions.As a high-strength,high-temperature resistant and high-performance material,carbon fibers are widely used.This study used carbon fibers as raw materials,adopted structural characteristics of honeycomb structures to create a special structure design on the second generation multi-eye and multi-rapier loom.The woven fabrics with carbon fibers and 12-layer honeycomb structures have good mechanical properties,thickness and thermal insulation properties,and could be normally used in high temperature environments.Firstly,this study should prepare woven fabrics with honeycomb structures as many layers as possible.Therefore,the honeycomb structure with small repeats was applied as the basic fabric structure.A proper looming draft for 12-layers honeycomb structure was designed according to requirements of the multi-eye and multi-rapier loom.Then,the 12-layer honeycomb structures that were woven using polyester yarns with reasonable machine settings,had a stable and uniform surface.Secondly,the 12-layer honeycomb woven fabrics were cured with epoxy resin,and sliced at a suitable position of the fabric to obtain a cross-sectional view of the fabric.Image processing of the cross-sectional view showed that direction of the warp yarns in the fabric at the joint could be clearly observed The results presented that:(1)the warp direction in the fabric fitted the original expectation of the structure and there were lots of small holes,indicating design of the fabric structure and junction point was reasonable;(2)yarns in each layer of fabrics could be maintained in a vertical distribution.Finally,based on previous research,the weaving process was improved carbon fibers were used as the raw materials to weave the 12-layer honeycomb woven fabric with a thickness of1.4cm.The thermal insulation performances of polyester samples and carbon samples were tested.samples was tested.The test results of polyester samples showed showed that the thermal resistance of the 12-layer superimposed honeycomb fabric was higher than that of the 12-layer honeycomb woven fabric.In addition,properties of the 12-layer carbon fiber honeycomb fabric were compared with a carbon fiber composite with 2cm thickness,and results show that the thermal resistance of the 12-layer carbon fiber honeycomb woven fabric was higher,although itsthickness was only 1.4cm that was small than the carbon fiber composite with 2cm thickness Results proved that design of honeycomb structure and its weaving process was reasonable and feasible.
