As a basic component of the Earth’s living system, ecosystems directly affect human survival and health. As people continue to deepen their understanding of the relationship between people and nature, ecological vulnerability has become a hot word in global change and sustainable development research. The Ta-pieh Mountains area is one of the national contiguous special poverty-stricken areas. It is not only the region with the largest population size and density in the main battlefield of national poverty alleviation, but also a typical area integrating revolutionary old areas, mountainous areas and underdeveloped areas, facing the dual pressures of fragile ecological environment and economic poverty. Therefore, the assessment of regional ecological environment vulnerability can provide support for regional ecological construction and is of great significance for achieving regional sustainable development in poor areas.Ta-pieh Mountains area at the junction of the three provinces of Anhui,Hubei, and Henan Provinces is used as the research area to study the ecological environment vulnerability of contiguous special poverty-stricken areas.First of all, this study uses RS and GIS technology to comprehensively use a variety of data sources such as remote sensing data,DEM data, meteorological data, soil data and statistical data, and the index system for ecological environment vulnerability evaluation of the Ta-pieh Mountains area was constructed, this index system selected twelve evaluation indicators from natural potential vulnerability and actual stress vulnerability; Then, combined with an improved entropy weight-analytic hierarchy process, with the support of GIS technology, the comprehensive quantitative evaluation of the ecological environment vulnerability of the Ta-pieh Mountains area was realized; Finally, using the coupled analysis model to explore the coupling relationship between the ecological environment vulnerability and economic poverty in the Ta-pieh Mountains area. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The eco-environment vulnerability of the Ta-pieh Mountains area is significantly different, the eco-environment in the southern mountainous areas is more fragile than in the northern plains.According to the grading standards of eco-environment vulnerability index in the study area, the Ta-pieh Mountains area is dominated by moderately vulnerable areas, while the potential, mild, severe and extremely vulnerable areas accounted for 2.26%,34.87%,10.58%and 0.05%of the total study area;Among them, the moderately and slightly vulnerable areas are mainly concentrated in the plains of the eastern Henan and the Huaibei Plain, the severe and extremely vulnerable areas are mainly concentrated in the west and south mountainous areas of the study area.(2)From the perspective of administrative differences, the degree of ecological vulnerability between different provinces in the Ta-pieh Mountains area is quite different:The Ta-pieh Mountains area of Hubei Province>The Ta-pieh Mountains area of Henan Province>The Ta-pieh Mountains area of Anhui Province.Among them, the degree of ecological environment vulnerability in Hubei Province is above the middle level;most of Henan Province is located in a moderately vulnerable area;the internal differences in Anhui Province are obvious, and the ecological environment vulnerability of the Ta-pieh Mountains in the south is higher than that in the northern Huaibei Plain.(3)The economic poverty index of the Ta-pieh Mountains area is generally higher than that of the north and the mountainous area is larger than the plain, the larger areas are mainly concentrated in the mountainous poverty counties(such as Yuexi County,Taihu County,Susong County,Jinzhai County)in the study area, the smaller areas are mainly located along the plains of the Yellow River and the plains of the eastern Henan.(such as Minquan County,Yucheng County,Lankao County).(4)The areas where the ecological environment fragility and economic poverty in the Ta-pieh Mountains area are extremely coupled, heavily coupled, moderately coupled and lightly coupled account for 38.89%,16.67%,19.44%,and 25%of the total number of study areas respectively. From the perspective of spatial distribution,In terms of the degree of coupling between ecological environment vulnerability and economic poverty in the Ta-pieh Mountains area:Henan Province>Hubei Province>Anhui Province,It shows that the degree of vulnerability of the ecological environment in the region has a good correspondence with economic development.(5)In general, the ecological environment and the economy in most areas of the study area failed to achieve simultaneous development. The area of coordinated development in Henan Province only accounted for 16.67%,indicating that their ecosystems and economic systems promote mutual development;most of the Ta-pieh Mountains area in Anhui Province is characterized by impaired economic poverty, indicating that the high level of economic poverty in the region leads to imbalances in ecosystems and economic systems;most of the Ta-pieh Mountains area in Hubei Province is characterized by ecological environment damage, indicating that the high degree of ecological vulnerability in the region leads to imbalances in ecosystems and economic systems. At present, domestic and foreign scholars have a lot of research on the evaluation of ecological environment vulnerability, but there are few researches on contiguous special poverty-stricken areas that are comprehensively affected by natural, environmental, economic, social and other factors and there are fewer studies on the Ta-pieh Mountains area. This paper makes up for the lack of such research and enriches the empirical case study of ecological environment vulnerability assessment in poverty-stricken areas. This study provides scientific basis for promoting regional ecological environment restoration and ecological environment construction, and can also provide scientific and reasonable advice for coordination of ecological environment protection and poverty alleviation and development work.
