As Chinese urbanization has been deepened further more, the urban population continues to increase, the city’s economy is developing at a rapid rate, and a large amount of fossil energy had been consumed, with a mass of carbon dioxide and carbon compounds emitted.Along with the Greenhouse Effect intensifies, that how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide has become the focus of global discussions. As the second largest sector of carbon emissions, the urban transportation sector has great potential for carbon emission reduction and is the key to achieving global carbon emission reduction. Therefore, reducing carbon emissions from transportation has gradually attracted the attention of scholars.Land is a carrier of carbon source. That allocating urban construction land reasonably can reduce urban transportation carbon emissions effectively.Based on these, this paper synthesizes macro and micro analysis from the perspective of traffic travel, and finds and improves the factors that affect traffic carbon emissions, which has positive and far-reaching significance for achieving the goal of global carbon emission reduction. In this paper,Wuhan City is selected as the research area.Based on the analysis of related literatures at home and abroad and combined with the actual situation of Wuhan City, constructing the calculation model of carbon emissions from traffic in Wuhan.Combining the “top-down” with “bottom-up” methods to calculate the traffic carbon emissions generated by different modes of transportation. Finally, summarizing the total carbon emissions of transportation in Wuhan from 1996 to 2017,and analyzing carbon emissions from the perspective of macro and micro.Proposing the carbon emission reduction strategy of urban land useThe macro-level analysis shows that although the carbon emissions of transportation in Wuhan have been gradually rising during the period from 1996 to 2017,the carbon emissions per unit of GDP have been decreasing year by year.It can be concluded that Wuhan pay attention to low carbon transportation planning, while developing economy rapidly.By analyzing the decoupling relationship between traffic carbon emissions and economic growth,it is found that before 2013,Wuhan’s traffic carbon emissions and GDP were in a weak decoupling state, but in recent years it has been in a state of expansionary negative decoupling.Through further analysis of the contribution which different modes of transportation contributing to traffic carbon emissions,it is found that urban interior vehicles are the biggest driving force for the gradual growth of traffic carbon emissions in Wuhan. Finally, through co-integration model analysis,it is found that the traffic carbon emission is positively correlated with the urban built-up area and land intensive utilization level, and negatively correlated with the road network density. The micro-level analysis shows that factors including the ownership of cars, the commuting distance, the degree of chaos in community public service centers, community location, bus station location and bus accessibility influence residents’ carbon emissions.Improving the quality of public transport services will help reduce the use of private cars by residents, thereby slowing the growth of carbon emissions.Based on the macro and micro analysis,it proposes land use strategies such as “control the scale of the city, advocate the multi-center development of the city, improve the land use mix of residential communities, optimize the layout of urban functional land, and establish a high-quality public transport road network” to reduce traffic carbon emissions.
