Highway construction is a basic transportation hub to serve the public as well as facilitate travel and promote national economic construction. The purpose of the establishment of nature reserves is to protect biodiversity. However, with the acceleration of highway construction in China in recent years, highway construction projects involving nature reserves are on the rise.Due to the particularity and sensitivity of the ecological environment of nature reserves, the construction of highways will have obvious adverse effects on the nature reserves, and the contradiction between social and economic development as well as ecological environmental protection is increasingly prominent. Therefore, when it comes to highway project construction about nature reserves, ecological impact assessment is particularly important. In this paper, the ecological impact assessment contents, technical specifications and basic indicators of highway construction projects involving nature reserves are comprehensively studied. It is believed that the ecological impact assessment of highway construction projects involving protected areas should be carried out as follows:(1)the present situation of ecological environment should be investigated and comprehensively analyzed on the basis of existing data collection;(2)the quantitative method is used in the evaluation as far as possible, and the comprehensive conclusion is given as far as possible on the impact of the evaluation;(3)it is necessary to analyze and predict the current situation of the highway project in the aspects of protected area ecosystem, wild plants and vegetation, wild animals and their habitats, protected objects, cumulative effects, and so on,and put forward specific ecological prevention and ecological restoration measures to provide better scientific basis for the management of nature reserves. Finally, combined with the current status of animal and plant resources, using the abundance of species and the net primary productivity model of vegetation, the ecological impact assessment of the Heba Highway(Zhaoping to Mengshan section)crossing the Guangxi Guxiu Autonomous Region Nature Reserve section was carried out.The net primary productivity model, species abundance model and quality index method can be used to evaluate the present situation of ecological environment. At the same time, the impact of highway projects is evaluated quantitatively by calculating the decrease in forest area, resulting in reduced biomass, soil and water conservation, forest cover, forest stock, carbon dioxide uptake and oxygen emissions, etc. These methods are relatively simple and operational, and the results obtained are more objective.
