In the 40 years of reform and opening up,the development of our country has made great achievements in the world.But the rapid growth brought great pollution to our natural environment.China is facing ever-increasing environment problems.Pollutants and wastes produced in industrial production are the main source of pollution.Household sewage and domestic garbage becomes the main barrier of urban development.Environmental treatment has become the urgent task of our society.With the highlight of environment problems and the improvement of people’s attention,the regulation to pollution and the support of treatment are both reinforced by government.During the 11 th Five-year government proposed the strategy of energy-saving and emission-reduction.In Opinions on accelerating the construction of ecological civilization,the central government asked to improve environmental protection industry vigorously during the 12 th five year period.Recommendations for the 13 th five year plan for economic and social development confirms environmental protection industry as one of the pillar industry.Environmental protection industry ushers in a period of high speed development.The paper studies how medium-size enterprises survive and expand in the situation of great development of the entire industry.The company which this paper is discussing is a medium-size private enterprise.The main business of the company is sewage treatment.It also carries projects of soil restoration and management of waterworks.It takes too much effort for the company to survive 14 years,which makes the company representative.The paper firstly expounds the policy and economic environment for the development of environmental protection industry.It considers that environmental protection industry is a policy driven and Capital-intensive industry,which is most----D company for example affected by the policy.It’s also mentioned that the conditions are good for the whole industry.Then through Michael Porter five forces model,it shows the competition in the sewage treatment industry which subdivision industry the case enterprise engage in is going to be more and more intense.So the subdivision industry is now in growth period with rapid development according to the industry life cycle theory.Also the paper states that in future the hotspot of development of the industry is the treatment of township sewage,the upgrading of sewage treatment facilities and the operation service of sewage treatment facilities.Then the paper points out that the reason why the case company stops growing is wrong competitive strategy,by deeply dissecting the difficulties with management of the case company and comparing the company with others which grow successfully.In the end,the paper gives a strategic conception for the case enterprise according the successful experience and the theory of competition strategy.In the short term the case company shall obtain the franchise of the treatment of township sewage,maintain the operation and growth.At the same time,the case enterprise should closely contact with the large enterprises,show their own advantages,and realize the strategic goal of cooperation and integration with large enterprises.The case company which the author chooses isn’t the main competitive power in the market.And the company can’t make great changes to the entire industry.The goal of the paper is to give advice to the case company,and to make it easier to survive and develop among those huge state-owned enterprises.But the case company is one of typical small-size private enterprises with their specialties.Other small-size private enterprises may use it as reference.
