By means of the investigation of mercury content in vegetation on the grasslands adjacent to the mining areas located respectively in Xilin Gol,Huolin Gol,Erdos and Hulun Buir in Inner Mongolia, and the experiment of simulating subsidence of mercury in atmosphere outdoors,as well as the experiment of planting potted forage grass indoors, and studied the vegetation in Inner Mongolia's concentration capability to mercury, and its physiological and biochemical characteristics under mercury stress.Author also explored the absorption and concentration capability to soil mercury of different kinds of forage under various mercury stress, and the physiological and biochemical response of four kinds of forage,Chinese leymus, alfalfa, elymus and festuca arundinacea, grown in grassland sandy soil under mercury stress.Accordingly the results shows that the absorption capability to soil mercury of different kinds of forage under various mercury stress are different, and the four kinds of forage mentioned above possess the concentration capability to mercury in the soil under low mercury stress, which weakens as mercury stress increases.Mercury stress has a significant influence on the four kinds of forage's physiological and biochemical characteristics, and the thresholds of mercury tolerance for each forage are different.Under mercury stress, praline in forage increases, antioxidase activity, soluble protein and soluble sugar decreased successively, and membrane lipid peroxidation was aggravated. This study is highly significant on the prediction of mercury's environmental effect, the comprehension of forage's safe threshold to mercury, the search of effective environmental behavior to control soil mercury,as well as the search of biological control measures of soil mercury.Result also provides theoretical support for protection of grassland ecology and soil mercury accumulated in grassland's influence on forage,as well as valuable information to support related research.
