At present, mechanical pigging operation of crude oil pipeline relys heavily on the “rule-of-thumb” due to the lack of mature wax removal theory, therefore it increases the cost of pipeline pigging and decreases the safety factor of pigging. In addition, there are high risks of wax plug and pig stuck in the process of pipeline pigging, thus becoming the potential danger for safe and economical transportation of pipeline in service. To improve the understanding of wax removal mechanism and study the rule of pig movement in pipeline further, this paper aims at studying on wax removal mechanical behaviors of wax deposit sample with different structural strength. The relationship between the wax precipitation behavior of wax deposit sample and the flow condition parameters are determined by studying the influence of sensitive factors on wax precipitation characteristics, which are based on the wax deposition research results of loop experiments founded by my research group. The wax removal mechanical behaviors of wax deposit sample with different structural strength were studied and analysed. This paper carries out the preparation of wax deposit sample with low structural strength and wax removal simulation experiments.Wax precipitation characteristics, yield stress, viscoelasticity and wax crystals morphology of wax deposit samples are measured to make a comprehensive representation for wax deposit structural strength combined with the microscopic and macroscopic properties.Wax removal simulation experiments study the wax layer removal mechanism and verify the applicability of the established wax removal model, thus improving the wax removal model which has an average relative error of 11.57%.
