Lolita fashion,inspired by the clothing styles from European Victorian era,is a hyper-feminine fashion that combines both elegance and cuteness.Despite Lolita fashion's Japanese origin,it has transcended the barriers of race,gender,age and national boundaries.As Lolita Culture successfully establishes countless communities around the world,Lolita dresses blend in well with local cultures by churning out one new style after another in line with the local characteristics.The Lolita fashion scene is mainly female driven,and Lolita girls take the advantage of the traditionally feminine-coded dress and behavior as an effective tool for their self-expression and to some degree their self-realization.Lolita girls pursue their ideal identity and empower themselves in an imaginative and symbolic manner through resistance to mainstream culture at the micro level.Lolita subculture reflects unique aesthetics and values of young people,which adds great practical significance and cognitive value to the research itself.My research is based on the theories of Imagined Community and Cyborg Feminism and makes observations about Lolita community from several aspects like insider terminologies,consuming habits and offline gatherings.The author assumes the role of participant-observer and adopts the method of qualitative research to understand how Lolita girls gain power through the community activities they participate in and how do Lolita girls adjust their identity in the process.It endeavors to represent a realistic view of Lolita to eliminate some misconceptions and shed some light on what the Lolita community is truly about in Shanghai.The study finds out that Shanghai Lolita community is at its peak and has a large following.Lolita fashion community imaginatively carves out a feminine space for Lolita wearers to be honest with their own self and build close bonds with those who are like-minded.Women in daily life must meet the general expectations of society and have always been instilled to do the right thing at the right time.Lolita fashion,with a fairy tale-like sense of fantasy,harkens back to your innocent childhood and reminds you to remember why you start when you seek for your own destiny.Lolita fashion breaks away from societal expectations,to encourage women to live in the moment,in a timely manner to pursue the things that they hold dear to their heart.With its undying girl spirit,it ensures that women of different age range can return to the days of innocence.Through the magic of Lolita fashion,women gain more in confidence,courage,and hope.They learn to appreciate the beauty of every little thing,and find their daily dose of happiness around them more easily,with the world coming alive and brand new.
