Paper cutting as a kind of agrestic art that created by laboring people,is wild spread among civil society.After thousands of years development,kirigami has formed its’ special national or local style,its’ vitality gets much more stronger and shows the unique glamour of traditional culture.Paper cutting craft has been wildly used in the religious events and daily life of people.Though there are some professionals spend their lives on paper cutting culture,the original and fundamental productions were created by imitating flowers or animals by women as decorations for windows or doors at festival events.With the development of economy society,the acceleration of urbanization and the impact of foreign cultures,paper cutting craft is now facing the unprecedented challenge.Under the background of globalization,teenagers can get across to fashion objects through different channels,they tend to accept those novel and fresh things and pursue feelings full of excitement.Paper cutting as a kind of traditional technique has been replaced by new technologies,the storability and functionality of it have blocked its’ development and is in the danger of dying out.With the death of old handicraftsman,where should the paper cutting craft to go become the vital question.Those Chinese traditional cultures must keep pace with times,paper cutting craft carrying people’s pursuit for beauty,once we can adopt those new technologies and unique ideas,it can development prosperously again.In order to protect our traditional cultures,paper cutting has been included in the list of world intangible cultural heritage items.Although it originates from folks,it also is one kind of treasures of Chinese culture.More and more designers focused on the different expressing technique for fashion and created many items with distinct national and indigenous appearance.Garment design,mixed together with paper cutting,as one of the directions of cloth design is now full of energy and becoming the unique scenic on international T-stage show.Through the systematic research on the historic development,classification and artistic characteristics of paper cutting,I got to know that paper cutting is profoundly affected by traditional culture and also affected by the regional culture.By analyzing the existing cases of the adoption of paper cutting in garment design by some brilliant designers,I realized it’s a trend to integrate traditional cultures into world tendency.Modern aesthetic value and traditional culture or technology can be mix together.Designers come from Western countries prefer exaggerated and random sculpt elements.They dare to accept new things,like new fabric,new technologies,so they can always make breakthrough in designation and meet people’s demands.Based on the thorough investigation of paper cutting culture and garment designation,I tried to integrate both of them together to make some breakthrough in garment designation.Through applying the modern design mindset,aesthetic interest,novel fabric and traditional technology,I set about my research work.The sharp contrast of red and white color enhanced the visual impression.The integration of laser fabric and organza delivered the formal beauty of paper cutting arts.The fundamental process of paper cutting is cutting and hollowing process and some essential pattern is presented by Yin-Yang stripe.The modern garment design principle presented the perspective beauty and feminine of paper cutting.Above all,I designed three sets of garment and made a novel annotation of the integration between traditional elements and modern elements.
