For quite some time,economic-environmental issues have always been the focus of scholars' research. The two are closely related and inseparable. The classic environmental Kuznets model is often used to explore the intrinsic link between economic development and environmental quality.Enterprises are the carriers of social and economic development, and also the manufacturers of pollution emissions.Enterprises need to assume the duties and obligations to protect the environment.Entrepreneurship is the soul of enterprise development, guiding enterprises to make correct decisions and develop in a better direction. At present, there are many new terms emerging in the field of entrepreneurship, such as green entrepreneurship and environmental entrepreneurship. This paper first systematically reviews the domestic and international research status of the environmental Kuznets curve, entrepreneurship and its concept of expansion. It is found that most scholars verify from the macro level whether there is an environmental Kuznets curve, but rarely study the relationship between economic development and environmental quality from a microeconomic view.Secondly, the environmental Kuznets curve phenomenon is the result of many complex effects. At present,it is mainly explain the phenomenon of EKC from the traditional perspectives which are scale effect, structure effect and technology effect. And this paper attempts to reinterpret it from the perspective of entrepreneurship. Therefore, this paper selects the empirical data of 291 polluting listed companies from 2008 to 2017,and uses the simultaneous equations model to test therelationship between entrepreneurship, economic development and environmental pollution level under micro data. This paper focuses on the relationship between entrepreneurship and environmental pollution.Based on the extended environmental Kuznets curve, the mechanism behind the EKC phenomenon is reconsidered. In order to deeply explore the influence path of entrepreneurship on corporate environmental pollution emissions, this paper further analyzes the relationship between entrepreneurship and the three environmental effects by constructing a regulated mediation effect model. The empirical results of this paper show that, there is a positive relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution.Although the effect of entrepreneurship on economic growth is not obvious, the effect of entrepreneurship on environmental pollution is promoted.Specifically, there is an 'N'-type environmental Kuznets curve in China's listed polluting enterprises. That is,as the per capita output of enterprises increases, the pollution emissions of enterprises have increased first, then decreased and after that turned to increase.Among them, scale effect, technological effect, and entrepreneurship have a negative effect on environmental quality, which increases environmental pollution, while structural effects improve environmental quality.Secondly, the entrepreneurship further exerts an adverse effect on the environment by affecting the technological effects, scale effects and structural effects of the environment. At the same time, environmental regulation reverses the positive effect of the intermediary effect on environmental pollution and alleviates the environmental pressure. In addition, this paper also considers the different shapes of the EKC curve and the influence of entrepreneurship on environmental pollution under different regions, industry properties and property rights from the perspective of heterogeneity of enterprises. The research not only provides micro evidence for how Chinese enterprises practice clean and green production activities at this stage, but also deepens the understanding and recognizing of how to exert the positive role of entrepreneurship in environmental performance, and provides the theoretical basis for Government Policy-making.
