Salmonella is an important zoonotic pathogen, which causes a variety of animal diseases and human diseases. In recent years, with the economic and social development and the improvement of people's living standards, pet keeping is in the ascendant. In particular, the number of dogs raised has increased greatly.Due to the illegal administration of drugs and the antimicrobials for human which were used in dogs, the antimicrobial resistance of dog-associated Salmonella can not be ignored.Moreover,dog-associated Salmonella which were resistant to antimicrobials can be transmitted to humans through close contact between dogs and humans. Therefore,tt is difficult to treat human salmonellosis, even no medicine is available. In Yilong County, dogs are the main pets, which have been growing rapidly in recent years. This study intends to study the susceptibility of dog-associated Salmonella to commonly used antimicrobials in Yilong county.1.Isolation and identification of dog-associated Salmonella and identification of the serotypes of isolates in Yilong County. Objective: To understand the main serotypes of dog-associated Salmonella in Yilong County.Method: Five hundred and ninety dog fecal samples were collected.Salmonella was isolated by selective enrichment and molecular biological methods. The serotypes of isolates were subsequently identified.Result: Eighteen strains of Salmonella were isolated from 590 dog fecal samples, and 6 serotypes were identified. The serotypes of 4 strains were not identified.S.Derby and S.Bovismorbificans were the dominant serotypes. Conclusion: The serotypes of dog-associated Salmonella in Yilong County were acquired.2.Identificaiton of antimicrobial susceptibility of dog-associated Salmonella strains isolated from in Yilong County. Objective: To understand the multi-drug resistance of dog-associated Salmonella in Yilong County. Methods: Antimicrobial susceptibility of 18 dog-associated Salmonella strains to 27 antimicrobials was tested, and the muti-drug resistance of the corresponding strains was determined.Result: The resistance rate of 18 dog-associated Salmonella strains to ampicillin, tetracycline, doxycycline, chloramphenicol, florfenicol and trimethprim was more than 60%,and the strains were moderately or completely susceptible to ceftriaxone, cefoxitin, cefepime, imipenem, aztreonam, kanamycin, gentamicin, norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ofloxacin, enoxacin, and gatifloxacin. One bacterium was sensitive to all antimicrobials.Twelve isolates were determined as multi-drug resistant. Conclusion: In Yilong County, the antimicrobial resistance of dog-associated Salmonella is very seriously resistant to some antimicrobials. Therefore, antimicrobial susceptibility testing should be carried out before the use of antimicrobials.
