With the intensification of conflicts between people and land as well as the large-scale development of land for construction,problems such as the occupation of arable land resources and the balance of arable land have become increasingly prominent.The study on the potential of land resources development can provide a basis for the rational development of land,protection of the ecological environment and balance of arable land.By scientifically predicting the development potential of regional land resources,it can provide guidance for the development of land resources,effectively relieve the contradictions caused by unclear reserve resources,and offer the basis for reasonable approaches to protect the ecological environment.With remote sensing and the geographic information system technology applied,the study analyzes the status and characteristics of land use in Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture by means of remote sensing interpretation.The DEM data were combined to analyze the status of land use of different slopes,aspects and elevations as well as the distribution of land resources that can be developed.A comprehensive evaluation index system was established and the entropy weight method was used to calculate the weight of each evaluation index.The potential of land resources development and utilization in Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture was studied in combination with a mathematical model established in this study.The main research findings are as follows:(1)Based on data about land use status and a field sampling survey,Envi was applied to make a comparative judgment to interpret the distribution and characteristics of land use in Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture.Through DEM registering,the use and distribution status of land resources of different slopes,aspects and elevations were analyzed in detail.(2)The types of land that are suitable for development in the current status of land use were determined.Topographic and geomorphological conditions,soil indicators and location factors were combined to analyze the distribution of potential land resources under different landforms and landscape conditions.(3)Given the natural and environmental conditions of land distribution and econo mic conditions of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture,7 evaluation factors were determined from 3 aspects,i.e.topography,soil and regional development conditions.The weights were calculated using the entropy weight method and the Arcgis weighting method wa s applied to calculate the potential of land resources development in Xiangxi Autonomo us Prefecture.The land resources for agricultural development in Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture are concentrated in sunny and semi-sunny slopes with a slope of 15°-25°an d an elevation of 300m-500m,with the area of land resources available for developmen t being 1022.23km~2,accounting for 6.6%of the total area of land resources.The areas with high,medium,low and extremely low potential for land development take up an area of 315.44km~2,624.89km~2,962.14km~2 and 43.62km~2,respectively.Based on the re sults of comprehensive land resources research and land development potential evaluatio n,land resources available for development are mainly concentrated in the northeast an d southeast regions of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture.Land development in most area s needs to be combined with mature science and technology,rational development and utilization as well as the protection of the ecological environment.The key to realizing the balance of arable land resources is to give priority to the development of high-pot ential areas and supplement high-quality arable land for arable land occupied for constr uction.
