With the rapid development of urbanization, residents' pursuit of high quality living conditions for inhabitants is increasing, urban green spaces have played a significant role in ecology, economy, socioculture, health and environment benefits.Biologists have found that it is challenging to mesh conservation priorities with recreational motivations for maintaining and enhancing green spaces, mainly due to lack of knowledge about the preference and perception of biodiversity and the relationship between biodiversity and recreational values in urban green spaces. The Eight Perceived Sensory Dimensions(the eight PSDs),developed by the Swedish Agricultural University and the University of Copenhagen research team after more than 40 years of green space research, are widely used in green space recreation value evaluation, include: Serene,Nature,Rich in species,Space,Prospect,Refuge,Social and Culture. Therefore,in the urban green space planning and construction,in order to maximize the biodiversity and recreational value of urban green space. Therefore,in the urban green space planning and construction,in order to better maximize the biodiversity and recreational value of urban green space, this study was conducted through a field research and an onsite questionnaire to understand people's perceptions of and preferences for biodiversity and recreational values of urban green spaces in the People's park of Baoji city include six different habitat types, after statistical analysis by statistical software SAS 9.4,the main results of the study were as follows:1.People can correctly identify biodiversity, that is,perception of biodiversity is consistent with actual biodiversity, and people prefer environments with high biodiversity, rather than recreational activities in low biodiversity environments. The degree of preference in different habitats was significant difference.2.It was found that respondents were able to perceive different recreational attributes in the six habitats.Environments with more natural and abundant vegetation structures provided the most experiences of Serene,Nature and Space, while the environments with high artificial management and hard pavement for the most experiences of Social and Culture.Social was also highly perceived in the open lawn with some pavilions.Respondents' preferences for PSDs from low to high, including Serene,Nature,Space,Prospect,Rich in species,Refuge,Culture and Social.Correlation analysis between preference and the number of highly PSDs in each habitat were conducted, found that there was not a significant, that is,the green space environment that perceives the more recreational attributes, the respondents may not like it.3.An environment with high biodiversity is not necessarily perceived as having a lot of recreational values, perception of PSDs may be related to the respondents' attributes and the surrounding environment of green space. The level of biodiversity in the site may affect people's perception of certain perceptual recreation properties.4.Significant correlations between respondents' attributes and the perception and preference of biodiversity.Living environment and the frequency to the park were significantly influenced.Respondents who have a high degree of greening of their living environment and often come to the park could easily perceive and prefer the biodiversity of the park.Respondents' perceptions and preferences of PSDs were related to the educational level, attitude towards public green spaces and distance between home.Respondents who have received basic education, were close to the park and less paying attention to the public green space were more likely to perceive and prefer the PSDs of the green space. This study conducted an interdisciplinary research methods integrating ecological issues and social issues of urban green spaces to integrate the biodiversity of urban green spaces and residents' recreational of urban green space, the aim to explore trade-offs and synergies between urban biodiversity conservation and residents' recreational activities, understanding the factors which impact the urban biodiversity and recreational value,in order to provide scientific theoretical basis and practical methods for managers and designers to future green space planning. Therefore, while protecting the biodiversity of urban green space,it can also meet the daily recreational needs of human beings and improve the quality of green space, better benefit to the urban residents, and realize the beautiful vision of harmony between human beings and nature.
