In recent years,with the continuous improvement of China's independent innovation capability in the field of science and technology,high-tech enterprises with independent innovation technology,represented by HUAWEI,have begun to explore the international market,and their products are favored by consumers of international market.In the general trend of economic globalization,in order to promote “Chinese manufacturing” and “Chinese creation” to the world,some domestic technology companies will choose to take the form of product launch event to promote its technological products to consumers who live in other countries and use different languages around the world.In general,the spokesman of product launch event usually delivers speech in English that is one of widely used languages in the world,which promotes the development of EST(English for Science and Technology)interpreting and poses challenges for it as well.Therefore,study on interpreting of EST can broaden previous research on one hand and reflects practical demands on the other hand.From the perspective of the Relevance Theory,interpreting maintains dual ostensive-inferential process that involves with the speaker,the interpreter and the listener.On the one hand,the interpreter needs to infer the real intention of the speaker through finding optimal relevance in context that builds by the speaker's discourse;On the other hand,the interpreter should accurately manifest the speaker's communicative intention to the listener,bases on the listener's cognitive context as well as proper interpreting strategy.This thesis takes the Relevance Theory as theoretical basis and takes simultaneous interpreting of 2018 HUAWEI P20 series products launch event as corpus to analyze embodiment and application of the Relevance Theory in the EST interpreting.This thesis adopts the method of case study,which studies interpreting strategy of EST interpreting from the perspective of theRelevance Theory.Through the study of the Relevance Theory and the analysis of the corpus,this thesis finds that the Relevance Theory is compatible with the EST interpreting.In addition,in order to achieve an excellent interpreting effect,the interpreter should adopt flexible interpreting strategies so that the listener can achieve the optimal contextual effects with less processing efforts,and thus listener could achieve the optimal relevance with the speaker.This thesis discussed interpreting strategies such as addition,omission,explicitness and integration,etc.The author hopes that this study can provide some references for both study and practice of EST interpreting.
